LEHIGH COUNTY

ALLENTOWN will be hold three open houses as part of its ongoing efforts to provide information on the progress of the Allentown hockey arena project. The Open Houses will make available information and displays on a variety of aspects of the arena project, including why it makes sense for Downtown Allentown, how the city plans to foster job and training opportunities, and what can be expected over the coming year as construction gets underway. Representatives from the city, as well as the engineers, geologists, experts and others who performed the planning, design and feasibility studies – will be on-hand to address questions one-on-one. There will be no formal presentation at these events. The schedule is: 6-8 p.m. Nov. 29, Allentown Central Catholic High School, 301 N. Fourth St.; 6-8 p.m. Nov. 30, Scottish Rite Cathedral, 1533 Hamilton St.; and 6-8 p.m. Dec. 1 at Dieruff High School, 815 N. Irving St.

EMMAUS HIGH SCHOOL'S Fermata Nowhere, a cappella singing group, will perform a concert 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. The award-winning singing group is directed by Rita Cortez, director of Choral Activities at the school. Hosted by Lower Macungie Library admission is a donation of a non-perishable item or good will offering to the Zionsville Area Food Pantry. NORTHAMPTON COUNTY

MORAVIAN VILLAGE OF BETHLEHEM, 526 Wood St., will be the site of the 46th annual Community Advent Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 26. The event will feature appearances by Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan and WFMZ-TV anchor Rob Vaughn, as well as a performance by the Bethlehem Area Moravian Trombone Choir. THE SALVATION ARMY'S "Our Place" Seniors program will host students from the Lehigh Valley Performing Arts School 10:45 a.m. Thursday, December 7 for their Christmas Party. Performing music for the Christmas season will be a group of vocalists accompanied by an instrumental trio. Those ages 50 and older are invited to attend the performance and luncheon following at noon. Cost is $1 for lunch, the program is free. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting The Salvation Army, 521 Pembroke Road, Bethlehem, or 610-867-4681 by Nov. 28.

BETHLEHEM AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY, 11 W. Church St., will host an informative workshop, If Walls Could Talk, at 7 p.m. Nov. 29. Representatives of Bethlehem's North by Northwest Neighborhood Initiative and the library's reference librarians will reveal research tools and techniques to trace your house's history. MORAVIAN HALL SQUARE, 175 W. North St., Nazareth, will host a "Heart and Wallet: The Benefits of Charitable Giving" program noon Nov. 30. The free program is part of the Lunch and Learn series. NEW BETHANY MINISTRIES' 14th annual Luminaria Night will be held Dec. 10. Luminaria Night is evening when the homes in a neighborhood line their streets with luminary bags – white bags with votive candles burning inside. The Luminaria kit contains 10 white bags, 10 votive candles and sand for the bags and is $10 for the first kit and $5 for each additional kit. Luminaria kits will be available 4-6 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 at the Bethlehem Memorial Pool building, Illicks Mill Road, or by contacting New Bethany Ministries at 610-691-5602 ext. 21 or email newbethany@newbethanyministries.org. The organization is also seeking block captains to distribute order forms and kits on their street. Proceeds go to New Bethany Ministries. Inclement weather date is Dec. 11.

BUCKS COUNTY

PENNRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL'S Varsity football team, The Rams, is collecting gently used football equipment. The project called "Gear Up to Win," has team members collecting items and the players will clean, sort, and deliver the equipment to local youth football organizations. The goal is to provide protective gear to boys whose parents may not be able to afford it, so players can participate safely. The team is seeking serviceable cleats, gloves, personal padding (arm guards, padded shirts, and girdles), cold-weather gear (such as UnderArmour), practice pants and jerseys, athletic protectors, and other personal equipment. Items may be dropped off at Poppy Yoder Field, Perkasie, Thursday at the annual football game between Pennridge and Quakertown high schools. Kick off is 10:15 a.m. and items may be dropped in the "Gear Up to Win" collection bins near the stadium entrance.

CARBON AND MONROE COUNTIES
