Who are the Lehigh Valley's best high school athletes in the Class of 2011?

FROM KEITH GROLLER

We're looking for the best seniors from the soon-to-be completed 2010-11 school year.

We know it's not over yet with the spring sports still going on, but we're looking for the top seniors from this graduating class and we're looking for your help in choosing them.

We're compiling a list of nominees and then will conduct an online vote next week on themorningcall.com in which you be allowed to participate.

The senior athletes selected will then (hopefully) appear on the final Morning Call "Calling All Sports" TV show of the season on May 23-24.

But first, we're looking to compile a list of nominees -- eight to ten of them for boys and girls. Please send your nominees by either commenting on this blog, or, if you want to keep your choices between you and me -- by sending to my e-mail address at kgroller@mcall.com

Some must-haves, include:

Nazareth's Chuck Dibilio, who raised both Blue Eagles football and basketball to lofty heights. He ran for 2,050 yards and 30 touchdowns in football and was one of the area's leading scorers with 20.4 points per game in basketball. He also went over 1,000 points in his career. He is headed to Princeton.

Whitehall's Eric Fiore, who ran for 1,342 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior. He is also a top track athlete and headed the University of Pennsylvania.

Liberty's Darrun Hilliard, who led Liberty to a Lehigh Valley Conference championship and a berth in the District 11 4A finals after averaging 19.7 points per game. He is headed to Villanova.

Allen's Jalen Cannon, who led the Canaries to the District 11 title by averaging 19.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He is headed to St. Francis of Brooklyn.

Salisbury's Sean Baker, who is an exceptional soccer player and also pretty good in basketball, too. In soccer, Baker led the area in scoring with 33 goals and 13 assists and had 72 goals and 34 assists in his career. He led his team to the District 11 2A title and earned a scholarship to the University of Richmond.

Nazareth's wrestling state champ Zach Horan, or any of the other wrestling state champs including Parkland's Mike Ottinger, Tamaqua's Garth Lakitsky and Easton's Mitch Minotti.

And, among the girls where we could really use more nominees:

Nazareth's Erika Livermore, who was a second-team all-state selection in Class 4A after averaging 18.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in helping the Blue Eagles reach both the LVC and District 11 4A title games.

Tamaqua'a Amy Zehner, who led her team to league and district titles and was a first-team all-state choice in 3A after averaging 22.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She ended her career with 1,908 points, ranking third all-time among Tamaqua girls.

Parkland's girls volleyball star Taylor Wejkszner who through the District 11 title game had 206 kills, 31 aces, 36 blocks, 110 digs, 4 assists and a 51.6 kill percentage, while making only 34 errors.

Emmaus field hockey standout Allison Evans who scored 55 goals and added 11 assists to set her school's and Pennsylvania's all-time records for a career (158 goals). Evans will play at Princeton University. Her postseason helped carry the Green Hornets to an unbeaten, state-title season.

Who did we miss? Let us know.
