District 11 denies Justin Pacchioli's request to play baseball at Nazareth Area High School

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Former Easton Area High School standout Justin Pacchioli's request to play baseball for Nazareth Area High School was denied by the District 11 committee Wednesday during a special meeting at Wilson Area High School.

After more than three hours of testimony and deliberation, the committee voted 8-6 to deny the senior transfer's request to play for the Blue Eagles. The committee determined that there was "reasonable likelihood that the transfer was made for athletic purpose."

Pacchioli can continue to practice with Nazareth but must win an appeal to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association in order to play in games.

On the advice from attorney Steve Hoffman, Pacchioli declined to comment on the decision. His father, Mike, who was openly upset about the decision, said "we're absolutely appealing" to the PIAA.

Michael Solomon, director of Legal Affairs for the PIAA, said if an appeal is filed that it would be heard either Friday, March 25, or Saturday, March 26, when the PIAA committee meets in State College during the basketball championship weekend.

Nazareth is scheduled to open its baseball season Friday, March 25, at Pocono Mountain East.

Pacchioli, a Lehigh University recruit, batted a school-record .519 for Easton last spring.
