Nazareth advances to LVC final with win over Parkland

No. 2 seed Nazareth used a 17-2 second-half run to break open a four-point game and pull away from No. 3 Parkland for a 48-39 win in the first game of Tuesday’s Lehigh Valley Conference girls basketball semifinal doubleheader at Freedom High School.

The Blue Eagles (19-3 overall) advanced to Friday’s LVC title game back at Freedom against the winner of the second semifinal between No. 4 Bethlehem Catholic and No. 1 Central Catholic. Parkland (18-5) will be off till the District 11 Class 4A tournament starts next week after losing to Nazareth for the third time in as many meetings this season.

LVC MVP Erika Livermore scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Nazareth. Her teammates helped the Blue Eagles take command, scoring the the first 10 points of their separating spurt. Caitlyn Gary and Morgan Calabrese each hit 3-pointers during the run as Nazareth pushed out to a double-digit lead.

Jess Fritsche scored a game-high 13 points for Parkland. Olivia Hassler added six points and 12 boards.
