EXPRESS TIMES WRESTLING RANKINGS

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Individual wrestling rankings
Brian IsraelBrian Israel
103 Name Record School Class
1 Darian Cruz 29-2 Beth. Catholic So.
2 Brett Marino 27-3 Liberty Sr.
3 Cody Barbiche 30-0 Delaware Valley Sr.
4 Matt Williams 31-7 Pen Argyl So.
5 Kyle Baker 23-10 Easton Fr.

Honorable mention: Fr. Pat Antonacci (22-2) Central Catholic; So. Jaryd Flank (17-8) Wilson; So. Bryan Israel (29-3) Saucon Valley; Fr. Ethan Lizak (23-8) Parkland; So. Matt Moncourtois (22-6) North Hunterdon; Fr. Dylan Nace (25-4) Hunterdon Central; Fr. Matty Richie (15-7) North Warren; Jr. Brandon Sommer (16-12) Northampton; So. Tyler Yarnell (19-11) Voorhees.

Notes:Barbiche picked up his 100th win over Yarnell in the Terriers' sectional semifinal win. He is the ninth Terrier to reach that mark. Baker went 1-3 at the Class AAA state team duals but the competition was formidable and he was competitive. Baker's on warning, though, with Israel waiting in the wings; however, a loss to Cruz Wednesday will not weight heavily against the Red Rover.

Matt GilmoreMatt Gilmore
112 Name Record School Class
1 Zeke Moisey 30-5 Beth. Catholic Fr.
2 Anthony Cabrera 26-3 Liberty Sr.
3 Ryan Nicotra 27-2 Hackettstown Sr.
4 Gary Dinmore 24-1 Hunterdon Central Fr.
5 Chase Zemenak 23-13 Nazareth Fr.

Honorable mention: So. Anthony Dee (17-8) Salisbury; So. Ian Evans (18-14) Parkland; Fr. Josh Evans (20-4) Palmerton; So. Zach Fisher (19-15) Phillipsburg; So. Matt Gilmore (21-5) Delaware Valley; Fr. Christian Okulicz (19-11) Voorhees; Fr. Justin Pidoto (23-10) Warren Hills; Jr. Peter Stanley (21-12) Easton; Fr. Vinnie Vonelli (22-8) Pius X; Sr. Jamie Welsh (26-7) Pen Argyl.

Notes:Nicotra, at 96 career wins, could reach 100 if he (as is highly likely) gets out of District 1 this weekend. Zemenak struggled at the state duals but, like Baker at 103, is just on probation due to brutal competition. Gilmore keeps amassing clutch wins. Welsh is close. Stanley, a very consistent and steady competitor, might give Moisey a go Wednesday.

Tyler KozimorTyler Kozimor
119 Name Record School Class
1 Randy Cruz 32-5 Beth. Catholic Jr.
2 Mike Pongracz 30-1 Delaware Valley So.
3 Josh Ortman 22-7 Parkland Fr.
4 DeMarquis Holley 22-3 Dieruff Jr.
5 Evan Disora 23-6 Easton So.

Honorable mention: Jr. Joseph Dalessandro (19-8) Pius X; Sr. Lucas Dise (21-5) Northern Lehigh; So. Grimaldi Gonzales (20-7) Liberty; Jr. Chris Greenwald (18-13) Warren Hills; So. Andrew Kaluzny (17-12) Phillipsburg; So. Tyler Kozimor (16-5) Hackettstown; So. Dillon Massington (21-6) Palmerton; So. Mike Rodgers (22-8) Central Catholic; So. George Schaffer (20-4) Bangor; So. Jesse Thorsen (23-9) Belvidere.

Notes: Quiet week here. Disora's 2-2 weekend in Hershey against rugged foes doesn't deserve a drop. Cruz, like most Becahi wrestlers, was magnificent in Hershey. Disora and Cruz could be lively Wednesday. Pongracz impressed in sectionals.

Pat BoylePat Boyle
125 Name Record School Class
1 Dylan Thorsen 30-1 Belvidere Jr.
2 Jaydon Rice 26-8 Beth. Catholic Sr.
3 Franco Ferraina 23-3 Nazareth Sr.
4 Devon Lotito 27-4 Liberty Jr.
5 Robbie Rizzolino 25-9 Easton
So.

Honorable mention: Sr. Pat Boyle (23-9) North Hunterdon; Sr. Chris Davis (25-6) Voorhees; Sr. Mike Fake (15-4) Parkland; Sr. Kevin Guenther (24-7) Delaware Valley; Jr. Zane Heller (21-5) Northern Lehigh; Jr. Ethan Keichel (17-9) Northwestern; Jr. Sam Oberlander (21-5) Palmerton; Jr. Paul Sloand (20-10) Saucon Valley.

Notes: Thorsen keeps rolling along. Rice injured his hand at the PIAA Class AA team duals but went 3-1 anyway with only loss to Reynolds' No. 1-ranked Mason Beckman. Davis majored Guenther in their sectional meeting. Rizzolino could state his case for advancement against Rice Wednesday.
Walter GonsiewskiWalter Gonsiewski
130 Name Record School Class
1 Zach Horan 37-0 Nazareth Sr.
2 Matt Lane 26-6 Phillipsburg Sr.
3 Calvin Daly 24-10 Easton Sr.
4 Matt Ortiz 18-4 Northwestern So.
5 Damien Hopper 23-1 Central Catholic Sr.

Honorable mention: Sr. Matt Boylan (18-13) Hunterdon Central; Sr. Mike Crawn (18-5) Bangor; Jr. Rich Cruz (19-10) Bethlehem Catholic; Sr. George Dalessandro (20-11) Pius X; Jr. Walter Gonsiewski (19-8) Voorhees; Jr. Javier Rivas (18-6) Dieruff; So. Mason Ryzoff (15-7) North Warren; Sr. Forest Touchberry (16-10) Parkland; Jr. Keith Wanamaker (22-11) Warren Hills.

Notes: Horan defeated Canon-McMillan's No. 3-ranked-in-Pennsylvania Chisko Solomon twice over the weekend in Hershey, and Cruz showed toughness in Becahi's state run as did Lane in P'burg's. No reason for any Top 5 shifts here this week.

Paul SchwartzPaul Schwartz
135 Name Record School Class
1 Mike Racciato 37-2 Pen Argyl So.
3 Joey Rizzolino 32-5/td> Easton Sr.
3 Greg Noll 31-7 Nazareth Sr.
4 Vince Pellechia 30-1 Catasauqua Jr.
5 Derek Zehnbauer 26-4 Delaware Valley Jr.

Honorable mention: So. Mike Marano (18-14) Parkland; Jr. Jose Morales (14-9) Dieruff; Jr. Aaron Morekin (22-6) Whitehall; Sr. Rob Napolitano (22-7) Hackettstown; Jr. Tom Scerbo (18-8) Hunterdon Central; Sr. Paul Schwartz (16-10) Freedom; Jr. Jason Stephen (26-8) Northampton.

Notes: Down comes Rizzolino from 140 but as good as the Rover is he does not displace Racciato, who was superb at the PIAA Class AA state duals, from the top spot. Few wrestlers had a better week than Noll (7-0 against largely quality foes) did and it is a close call to keep him below Rizzolino. With Rizzolino here now somebody had to go down, and on current form that is Stephen.

Luciano BurriesciLuciano Burriesci
140 Name Record School Class
1 Mitch Minotti/td> 32-2 Easton Jr.
2 Zack Wilson 17-10 Northampton Sr.
3 Ryan Todora 28-6 Beth. Catholic So.
4 Luciano Burriesci 32-9 Pen Argyl Sr.
5 Nikko Stevens 20-5 No. Lehigh Sr.

Honorable mention: Sr. Colby Barrett (17-6) Pius X; Sr. Billy Butka (22-11) Warren Hills; Jr. Victor Embardino (19-6) Notre Dame-Green Pond; Jr. Cody Grohotolski (15-8) Palmerton; Jr. Ronnie Honickel (29-1) Voorhees; So. Eric Matz (20-7) Catasauqua; Sr. Eric Seals (18-9) Allen; Sr. Rylan Watson (23-10) Phillipsburg.

Notes: Rizzolino pinned Wilson in 30 seconds at team duals, as if there was much doubt who was No. 1 here. Much to our surprise Todora did get to wrestle Burriesci and won 5-2 in one of the harder-edged, borderline-nasty bouts of the year. Should they meet again, there could be fireworks. Matz was pinned by Mike Racciato of Pen Argyl in a dual.

Josh LaBarJosh LaBar
145 Name Record School Class
1 John Lynch 25-4 Saucon Valley Sr.
2 Chris Cancelliere 28-3 North Hunterdon Sr.
3 Justin Heller 19-7 Parkland Sr.
5 Cole Sheptock 21-6 Northampton Jr.
5 Rex Lutz 25-8 Pen Argyl Sr.

Honorable mention: So. Tyler Cote (17-6) Hunterdon Central; Sr. Matt Gotzon (14-6) Southern Lehigh; So. Connor Hedash (15-8) Northern Lehigh; Sr. Kyle Kilpatrick (16-9) Wilson; Sr. Josh LaBar (26-5) Pius X.

Notes: Comings and goings galore here. Minotti's depature means there's a new No. 1 and that is Lynch, for now, by the narrowest of margins; the American signee has just one loss at this weight while Cancelliere has three. This is in no way settled. Lutz descends from 152 but with some shaky losses in Hershey, and Lynch beat him 10-3 in December; he slots in at No. 5 but could be displaced by LaBar at some point. Very fluid situation.

John LambertJohn Lambert
152 Name Record School Class
1 Bobby Clymer 24-4 Northwestern Sr.
2 Kyle DeHaut 22-7 Beth. Catholic Sr.
3 Dan Brockerhoff 23-9 Phillipsburg Sr.
4 John Lambert 22-5 Northampton Sr.
5 Beau Vrancken 27-3 North Hunterdon Jr.

Honorable mention: Sr. Matt Bonshak (20-5) Whitehall; Sr. Chris Carey (24-5) Hunterdon Central; So. Travis Buddock (14-7) Saucon Valley; Jr. Billy Christiansen (20-3) Wilson; Sr. Luke Gotzon (20-4) Southern Lehigh; So. Ty Herzog (22-4) Northern Lehigh; Jr. Justin Marsh (18-2) Palisades; Sr. Anthony Minotti (22-8) Easton; Jr. Mike Staufenberger (17-8) North Warren; Sr. Mike Rogers (20-12) Delaware Valley; So. Josh Young (17-5) Freedom.

Notes: We don't care about December results and head-to-head and all that other stuff when it comes to Brockerhoff; after watching him go up to 160 and post pins in the Group 4 state semi and final, falls the Stateliners really needed, such accomplishment demands a reward. For this class, usually a mess, otherwise a fairly tranquil week. DeHaut looked sharp at Class AA team states.

Jason RothmanJason Rothman
160 Name Record School Class
1 Elliot Riddick 29-6 Beth. Catholic Jr.
2 Ryan Krecker 25-1 Nazareth Sr.
3 Mike Ottinger 21-2 Parkland Sr.
4 Mason McIntyre 21-1 Easton Sr.
5 Jadaen Bernstein 30-0 Voorhees So.

Honorable mention: Jr. Jon Blank (24-2) Notre Dame; Jr. Nathan Dow (26-4) Belvidere; Jr. V.J. Delmonico (22-12) Phillipsburg; So. Dave Fenton (17-13) Hunterdon Central; Jr. William Hailey (11-4) Southern Lehigh; Sr. Tim Kunkel (15-8) Northampton; Jr. Nick Maddalena (19-4) Delaware Valley; Sr. Jason Rothman (20-5) Hackettstown; Sr. Kyle Sorensen (23-6) Northwestern; Jr. Richard York (15-5) Saucon Valley.

Notes: Riddick, Krecker and McIntyre all enjoyed stellar weekends at the state duals in Hershey to further reinforce just how strong this class is. How strong is it? Bernstein is a major stud and can't move up (until McIntyre drops to 152, which could happen Wednesday, though we hope not: we'd pay to watch him wrestle Riddick). How strong? Maddalena went up to 189 and beat Voorhees's 26-5 Zach Bohn in a sectional semifinal. How strong? Blank, a defending D-11 Class AA champion, can't get in Top 5. Delmonico looked powerful and smart at Group 4 semis and finals.

Jose OrtizJose Ortiz
171 Name Record School Class
1 Colin Hedash 23-2 No. Lehigh Sr.
2 Jake Maffucci 22-2 Hunterdon Central Sr.
3 Tyler Horn 30-8 Pen Argyl Sr.
4 Will Van Doren 25-5 Delaware Valley Jr.
5 Ray O'Donnell 28-4 Saucon Valley So.

Honorable mention: So. Evan Bray (18-9) Belvidere; Fr. Jose Ortiz (13-5) Bethlehem Catholic; Jr. Levi Veppert (24-5) Northwestern; Jr. Eric Wolak (16-7) Nazareth.

Notes: Hedash wrestled his first match at 171 since December on Thursday and posted a technical fall. Van Doren scored a remarkable triumph Wednesday when he went up to 215 and edged Voorhees' 23-4 Brian Guevara 5-4, which bumps him up a spot; he and his fellow Terrier Maddalena (see 160) may be the ultimate team wrestlers. Horn suffered two narrow losses to Bedford's Dakota Deslauriers and will not be penalized.

Marcus NewsomMarcus Newsom
189 Name Record School Class
1 Ian Gimbar 30-2 Saucon Valley Sr.
2 Dylan Evans 24-9 Pen Argyl Jr.
3 Luke Garner 25-1 Catasauqua Jr.
4
Ben Bradley 16-8 Nazareth Sr.
5 Cory Bruder 18-6 Parkland Sr.

Honorable mention: So. Josh Alpha (19-8) Bethlehem Catholic; Sr. Zach Bohn (26-5) Voorhees; Fr. Fuad Haddad (16-8) Whitehall; Sr. Kyle Kathenes (23-7) Hackettstown; Jr. Marcus Newsom (18-6) Northampton; Jr. Anthony Pare (15-9) Phillipsburg; Sr. Brandon Steele (17-10) Liberty; Sr. Kyle VanWingerden (18-9) Belvidere.

Notes: Injuries knock a couple of HMs out here. Gimbar went to 215 and majored Kane Kralik of Palmerton. Bradley struggled at state duals and loses No. 3 to Garner. Alpha is right on the verge of being ranked.

Kyle NergerKyle Nerger
215 Name Record School Class
1 Brandon Hull 26-5 Phillipsburg Jr.
2 Tarik Haddad 15-3 Parkland Sr.
3 Tyler Greene 28-7 Easton So.
4 Nick Sharga 27-5 Northampton Jr.
5 Kyle Nerger 24-7 North Hunterdon Sr.

Honorable mention: Jr. Ryan Barry (24-11) Pen Argyl; Sr. Brian Guevara (23-4) Voorhees; Sr. Fred Jennings (24-7) Hackettstown; So. J.B. Lawson (19-10) Belvidere; Sr. Derek Knoop (17-12) Hunterdon Central; Jr. Kane Kralik (18-6) Palmerton; Jr. Dan Smith (26-6) Warren Hills; Jr. David Wilke (21-10) Nazareth.

Notes: Quiet week. Hull pinned Knoop Sunday. Nerger's 2-1 win over Jennings finished up an 0-3 week for the Tiger. Kralik was majored by Ian Gimbar, no shame there.

Kirby MuttonKirby Mutton
285 Name Record School Class
1 Jack Delia 29-0 North Hunterdon Sr.
2 Jalal Paige 32-4 Easton Sr.
3 Steve Giraldo 25-6 Hackettstown Sr.
4 Aaron Bradley 19-3 Nazareth So.
5 Shaquone Williams 24-5 Pius X Jr.

Honorable mention: Sr. Steven Farr (21-5) Dieruff; Sr. Jordan Gonzalez (11-6) Allen; Sr. Shaun Heist (18-9) Parkland; So. Chris Longyhore (14-11) North Warren; Jr. Kirby Mutton (26-7) Pen Argyl.

Notes: Delia pinned Giraldo, so he's now beaten No. 2 and No. 3. Paige has won 13 straight bouts and looks as strong as any wrestler around. Farr beat Gonzalez for the Allentown heavyweight crown. Mutton impressed in Hershey.
