Easton sends six to finals at District 11 3A wrestling

Easton qualified six wrestlers to the finals to maintain its lead at the District 11 3A wrestling tournament at Liberty.

Nazareth advanced five wrestlers, while Liberty, Blue Mountain, Parkland and Northampton qualifed three each. The championship bouts are scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Liberty. Class 2A will join 3A at Liberty for the finals.

The 3A semifinals included a series of close bouts, none more tightly contested than the 171-pound matchup between Easton's Zach Bambary and Dieruff's Jovon Reyes. The Dieruff freshman escaped to take a 5-4 lead in the third overtime period but was called for stalling with 5 seconds left, tying the score. Bambary then rode Reyes in the 30-second ultimate-tiebreaker period for the 6-5 victory.

Also winning in overtime were Dieruff's DeMarquis Holley (112) and Southern Lehigh's Luke Gotzon (152). Holley spun out for an escape to edge Easton's Peter Stanley 4-3, and Gotzon escaped 9 seconds into the final period for a 3-2 win over Easton's Solomon Sohn.

The consolation finals will begin at 5 p.m. The top six wrestlers in Class 3A advance to next weekend's Northeast Regional tournament at Freedom.
