2011 Colonial League football schedule is out

FROM THE MORNING CALL

A year too late, but Northern Lehigh and Southern Lehigh finally will meet in Colonial League football in 2011.

Two of the league's best teams in 2010 didn't meet because of the rotating schedule among the 12 teams in a 10-week regular season.

In fact, the Bulldogs and Spartans have played just once in the last five years.

In 2011, defending CL and District 11 Class 2A champion Northern Lehigh visits Southern Lehigh in the first weekend --- Friday, Sept. 2.

Pen Argyl, the 2011 preseason favorite with almost all of its starters back from its 9-2 team, opens Saturday, Sept. 3, against visiting Saucon Valley.

Other games of note:

Pen Argyl visits perennial contender Wilson on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Northern Lehigh travels up the hill to Alumni Stadium to play Pen Argyl on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Northwestern Lehigh visits rival Northern Lehigh on Friday, Oct. 14

Pen Argyl visits Bangor on Friday, Nov. 4, in the Slate Belt rivalry game.

Other Nov. 4 rivalry games: Saucon Valley at Palisades, Wilson at Notre Dame-GP, Salisbury at Southern Lehigh and Palisades at Northern Lehigh.

The District 11 and Eastern Conference playoffs begin the following weekend.
