15 games to love on the way to Valentine's Day

From Keith Groller

I don't know if all schools still print out those pocket schedules for their fans.

If they do, this brutal winter weather has turned them to tatters.

I don't know what the record is for postponements, but we have to be getting close. Some games have been rescheduled three or four times alone.

We can't afford too many more storms and ppds because the league tournaments are coming soon. In all three leagues, they are set to begin Valentine's Day week.

In the LVC, the semis are slated to go on Weds., Feb. 16. In the Colonial League, the final four is supposed to be held on Tues., Feb. 15. The finals in the LVC, Colonial, and also the Mountain Valley Conference, are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18 with the district schedule to be released the next day.

Before we get to the playoffs, there are a lot of great games to be played.

If the weather allows, there's an attractive game lmost every day (except Sundays) in the next couple of weeks. This isn't how they were originally scheduled, but here's how it looks now:

Thursday, Feb. 3

Saucon at Salisbury ... State-ranked Falcons need this one to continue roll and stay in thick of league playoff hunt.

Friday, Feb. 4

Wilson at Saucon ... Winner is your likely South Division champ in the Colonial.

Saturday, Feb. 5

Allen at Easton ... Rovers defense will be challenged by Canaries strong inside game. Tip is at 12:30.

Nazareth at Bangor ... These were the area's last two unbeatens. A good gauge to see if the Slaters will have what it takes to compete in the 4A classification.

Monday, Feb. 7

Easton at Nazareth ... Old friends Jim Hutnik and Joe Arndt match wits in what could be a LVC playoff preview.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

Easton at Liberty ... Red Rovers' third game against one of the LVC's elite in four days.

CCHS at Allen ... If Easton stumbles badly in their brutal three-game stretch, Vikings have a chance to get back in wild-card chase. Not likely, but stranger things have happened.

Salisbury at Wilson ... Another key contest for the Falcons in their quest to get into league's final four.

Thursday, Feb. 10

Nazareth at Allen ... By this point, both should have their divisions wrapped up and will be tuning up for the tournament.

Southern Lehigh at Salisbury ... Bill Paulik Court will be named and maybe the Falcons might just honor the former coach by clinching a playoff spot on this night.

Friday, Feb, 11

Emmaus at CCHS ... May not mean anything in terms of standings, but always intense between these two.

Liberty at Freedom ... Pates may need this one for districts.

Parkland at Whitehall ... Trojans may need this one for district berth.

Wilson at Notre Dame ... Crusaders could need this one for Colonial tourney berth.

Saturday, Feb. 12

Allen at Pocono Mountain East ... Feathers will fly when Canaries and Cardinals meet in what could be a District 11 4A playoff preview.

That's a lot of good basketball left in this regular season. Now if only Old Man Winter will finally cooperate.
