Predictions and postponements in high school boys basketball

FROM KEITH GROLLER

An inch or two of snow -- at least that's all outside our window here on Groller's Corner -- has created havoc with our Friday night basketball schedule.

Here are the postponements I have in boys basketball so far:

Northampton at Nazareth, new date TBA.

Whitehall at Parkland, new date TBA

Allen at Dieruff, moved to 7:30 p.m., Sat. Jan. 22.

Saucon Valley at Palmerton, moved to 7:15 on Monday

Palisades at Northern Lehigh, moved to 7:15 p.m. on Monday

Salisbury at Bangor, moved to 7:45 p.m. on Monday

Freedom at Liberty, moved to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Pocono Mt. East at ES North, Thursday, Jan. 27, 7 p.m.

NOTE: We mistakenly put Liberty-Pocono Mountain West as a Saturday game in today's boys column. That's when it was originally scheduled. However, that game was moved from Jan. 8 to Sunday, Jan. 30, to be part of the Hoop Group's Lehigh Valley event at Parkland High School. Liberty and Pocono West will play at 2:40 that Sunday.

We've also heard that the CCHS-Emmaus, So. Lehigh at Pen Argyl and Notre Dame-Catty boys games will go on as scheduled.

And that's all I have as of 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

As for the predictions of the LVC and Colonial League games that were scheduled for today:

Allen 80, Dieruff 55 -- Canaries have just too much of everything for the improved Huskies. Don't see this result changing on Jan. 22 when the game is now scheduled to be played.

CCHS 60, Emmaus 55 -- I really don't care what age he is, Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman still is a special player, one of our area's best.

Liberty 75, Freedom 60 -- Patriots are building for the future. Hurricanes time is now.

Whitehall 50, Parkland 45 -- Might be the closest game of the night. Zephs have shown a little more offensive firepower than Trojans.

Nazareth 64, Northampton 45 -- Konkrete Kids showed some toughness against Emmaus, but are no match for high flying Blue Eagles. My buddy, the Weave, is calling it 50-31, his Blue Eagles of course.

Notre Dame 70, Catasauqua 58 -- Crusaders, like all South teams, need to do some damage against North Division members.

Northern Lehigh 66, Palisdes 60 -- Real, real shame what happened to that Pirate Ship down there in Kintnersville (it's shown below before the fire). Classless, gutless act. Hope they find out who did it and really go after the guilty hard.

Palisades

Bangor 72, Salisbury 55 -- Until proven otherwise, Slaters are the Colonial League's best.

Saucon Valley 66, Palmerton 53 -- Bombers are better, but not good enough to stop Panthers.

Southern Lehigh 70, Pen Argyl 50 -- Spartans still have a chance to get back into District 11 playoff consideration.

Wilson 66, Northwestern 33 -- Bob Frankenfield recently joined the 400-win club and this may be one of his best coaching jobs.

Saturday ---

Bangor 64, Emmaus 61 -- Having the night off will help the Slaters, while the Green Hornets will be in a war with Central.
