Philadelphia Eagles' rally falls short as Michael Vick throws interception in end zone on final drive

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

For a second or two, Sunday's NFC wild-card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers had the feel of the Philadelphia Eagles' epic comeback from 24 points down to beat the New York Giants in December.

The Eagles trailed 21-10 in the fourth quarter before starting to surge, but after Michael Vick scored on a one-yard sneak on 4th-and-goal with 4:02 to play, they missed a two-point conversion.

After stopping the Packers -- who stunningly punted to DeSean Jackson, but an Eagles holding penalty would have wiped out any Giants-game-rerun -- the Eagles moved the ball to the Packers' 27 with just under a minute left.

Vick's pass to Riley Cooper in the end zone was picked off by the Packers' Nick Collins and Green Bay ran out the clock for a 21-16 win.

With the win, Green Bay will move on to Atlanta for an NFL divisional round game while the Eagles' season is over.

Philadelphia never led in the game and left plenty of points on the field. David Akers missed field goals of 34 and 41 yards and the Eagles had to settle for a field goal when drives stalled in Green Bay territory.

The Eagles were plagued by killer penalties (7 for 50 yards) and were lucky to be in the game at the end, as Green Bay's James Jones dropped a sure-thing touchdown pass late in the second half.

Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers finished 18-for-27 passing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, but his fumble early in the third quarter, forced by Darryl Tapp and recovered by Juqua Parker, led to Vick's 24-yard TD pass to Jason Avant that kept the Eagles in the game.

But the Packers responded with an 80-yard TD drive for the 21-10 lead that Philadelphia could not overcome.

Vick finished 20-for-36 passing for 292 yards -- 7 of those to Jason Avant for 93 yards -- with one TD and one interception. He ran for 33 yards but was sacked three times.
