Liberty wrestling team reaches 800-win milestone

FROM THE MORNING CALL

The Liberty High wrestling team reached a statewide milestone Saturday, becoming just the fourth team in Pennsylvania history to win 800 dual matches.

The Hurricanes won a pair of matches at the Brian Bealer Memorial Bear Duals at Boyertown High to reach the 800-victory plateau. Liberty joined Canon-McMillan, Waynesburg and Easton (which won its 800th last year) on the list of the state's winningest programs.

Liberty defeated Governor Mifflin (37-32) and Upper Moreland (40-32) to reach the landmark. Liberty's Anthony Cabrera (112 pounds) clinched the moment with a 9-3 victory in the last bout against Upper Moreland.

In recognition of the achievement, Liberty coach Jody Karam was nominated for the U.S. Army Coach of the Year award.
