Some news and notes from the first weekend of the 2010 playoffs:

More records for Remaley: Northern Lehigh senior Cody Remaley is tied with Duke Lilly for the school's single-season touchdown record with 30.

Remaley didn't score a TD in the Bulldogs' 35-19 win over Jim Thorpe last Saturday night.

No guarantee he'll break the mark this Saturday night as defending District 11 Class 2A champion North Schuylkill comes to town in a rematch of last year's final, won by the Spartans 33-26.


Chasing two records: Southern Lehigh senior linebacker Ray Durkin is within a handful of tackles of two school records, single-season and career tackles. He has 136 tackles in 2010, 256 for his career. Both are five shy of the school records.

Getting offensive: Southern Lehigh sets two school records in last Friday night's victory at Pottsville in the District 11 Class 3A semifinals. The Spartans now have scored 365 points, beating the 355 the 1996 team did in 12 games.

Also, the Spartans have 4,135 yards from scrimmage, beating the 1997 team which had 3,879 in 12 games.

Getting defensive: The 98 points allowed during the regular season is the fewest allowed in the regular season for Southern Lehigh since 1984, when the Spartans yielded 69 points.

Irony: Ty Edmond is this year's quarterback. Bob Edmond, Ty's dad, was the QB on the 1984 team.

Trivia question: Which running back has the District 11 record for three consecutive games with at least 300 yards rushing?

Last week's trivia answer: Lehighton's Jacen Nalesnik last year joined Pius X's Matt Camilletti as the only area players to have at least 100 yards receiving in a game as a freshman. Nalesnik did so with 105 yards last year against Marian Catholic, his first varsity game.

Also, the four other players who had at least 10 catches as a freshmen were: Notre Dame-GP's Dan Tavani (21 in 2000), Emmaus' Ryan Foltz (18 in 2005), Pen Argyl's Joe Kopko (16 in 1984) and Easton's Jarred Holley (10 in 2004).

Some justice: It has been an emotional roller-coaster of a senior season for Bangor senior Scott LaValva. Knee troubles kept him out of four full games and less than 100 percent for others. But, there was a tiny bit of justice when LaValva was able to play in the Slaters' season-ending loss to Berwick in last Friday's Eastern Conference Class 3A semfiinals.

LaValva ran for more than 150 yards in the 28-21 loss. He finished second in the Colonial League in career rushing yardage behind Northern Lehigh's Remaley.

Missed extra points: A missed PAT last week put Pen Argyl in an awkward spot early against North Schuylkill. It cost Catasauqua and Pottsville in their respective games against Pine Grove (Eastern Conference Class 2A semifinal) and Southern Lehigh (District 11 3A semifinal).

Advance tickets needed: Be sure to get your tickets in advance for Saturday night's District 11 Class 2A final between North Schuylkill and Northern Lehigh. They are on sale in the Northern Lehigh main office from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. It's $6 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets at the gate are $6.
