Eagles trounce Falcons, 31-17

FROM THE MORNING CALL

PHILADELPHIA —
— Kevin Kolb completed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles past the Atlanta Falcons 31-17 at Lincoln Financial Field this afternoon.

The Eagles needed just two offensive plays to find the end zone and bolt into the lead for good in a game they dominated almost the whole way. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson took it in on a 31-yard run around left end.

Jackson later absorbed a vicious, illegal hit by Dunta Robinson and left the game for good with a head injury.

Had William Moore not intercepted a twice-tipped pass and returned it to the Eagles' 31-yard line, setting up a Falcons touchdown right before the end of the first half, the game might have been out of hand by intermission, as the Eagles appeared to be driving for another score.

But once the Eagles were up by three touchdowns, they went to a more balanced attack that produced 33 running plays (plus one scramble), shortening the game and making it all but impossible for the Falcons to come all the way back.

The Eagles also slammed the door shut on the Falcons' running game, holding Michael Turner to 45 yards on 15 attempts.
