Major League Baseball Postseason TV schedule

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I don't know about you, but I still think it's ridiculous how things have been pushed back on the sports calendar in recent years.

It was a novelty caused by 9/11 in 2001 when the World Series stretched into November and Derek Jeter hit that home run to beat the Diamondbacks in Game 4 four minutes after midnight on Nov. 1 and Michael Kay instantly dubbed him "Mr. November."

Now the World Series almost definitely will go into November, maybe as late as Thursday, Nov. 4. Only a four-game sweep would confine the Fall Classic to October.

And the Super Bowl, which used to be held in early-to-mid January is now held in February and NCAA basketball's "March Madness" now stretches into the first week of April.

Even the College World Series is held in late June, almost bucking the 4th of July holiday. They're still playing 6 weeks or so after classes have ended.

It's all about when the networks prefer these things to be held -- example November and February are "sweeps" months when advertising rates are set so it's better to have blockbuster events like the World Series and Super Bowl during those time periods.

The one good thing with this revised calendar is that it seems designed to get us through the winter months.

Having the Super Bowl in February definitely shortens the winter and my least favorite time of year.

They're telling me that LeBron and the Heat have brought back the NBA's popularity to MJ heights, but I still am not sure about that. I just can't get into the NBA until the playoffs begin.

Anyway, here's the MLB postseason schedule from mlb.com and you'll note that the dates for Phillies home games over the next couple of weeks would be:

Oct. 6, Oct. 8 and Oct.13 for the NLDS.

Oct. 16, Oct. 17, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 for the NLCS.

And Oct. 27, Oct. 28 and Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 for the World Series.
