Easton Area High School football team rallies for 35-20 win over Nazareth Area high School

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

EASTON | Down by six points at halftime, Easton Area High School football coach Steve Shiffert looked his players in the eyes and gave them a stern message.

"Basically we just challenged our kids at halftime to play up to their ability," Shiffert said.

The Red Rovers answered by outscoring Nazareth Area High School by 21 points en route to a 35-20 come-from-behind victory at Cottingham Stadium.

"We had some people in the first half that weren't doing what they should do," said Shiffert, who improved to 15-1 against his alma mater. "In the second half they made plays and responded."

After forcing the Blue Eagles (1-1 overall, 0-1 Lehigh Valley Conference) to punt for the second time in the half, Easton went 63 yards and took the lead for good when senior quarterback Justin Pacchioli found tight end Justin Souders for a 15-yard touchdown.

Pacchioli continued to "respond" to his coach's challenge with a 67-yard touchdown run on the Red Rovers' next possession and a 28-20 advantage with 6:03 left in the third quarter.

Senior running back Zack Bambary also answered the call, picking off Nazareth junior quarterback Dan Harding and taking it to the end zone on the Blue Eagles' ensuing possession for a 32-yard score.

"I had that mistake earlier in the game with my fumble and I owed my team one," Bambary said regarding his second-quarter fumble. "He threw it right to me so all I had to do was run it in."

Nazareth controlled the first half thanks to senior running back Chuck Dibilio and senior placekicker Braden Drexler.

Dibilio racked up 117 yards on 16 carries with touchdown scores of 10 and 25 yards as the Blue Eagles led 14-7 after the first quarter
