Syracuse pitcher Jason Jones takes a perfect game into the eighth inning in 7-0 win over IronPigs

Syracuse starting pitcher Jason Jones retired the first 23 Lehigh Valley batters he faced to lead the Chiefs to a 7-0 win at Coca-Cola Park and a sweep of the brief, two-game series.

Jones, struck out Andy Tracy and Cody Ransom to start the eighth inning before Domonic Brown hit the second pitch of his third at-bat back through the box for the IronPigs first hit of the game.

Neil Sellers grounded out to end the eighth inning and Jones was lifted in favor of Collin Balester to start the ninth inning after throwing 89 pitches. Chris Duffy singled off of Balester in the ninth as Lehigh Valley finished with two hits.

Kevin Mench and Seth Bynum both homered off of IronPigs starter Brian Mazone as the Chiefs built a 3-0 lead through three innings. Syracuse added another trio of runs off of Brian Gordon and Justin Maxwell closed the scoring with a solo home run off of Michael Stutes in the ninth.

Lehigh Valley must now travel to Pawtucket for a one-game series against the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate before the two teams turn around and head back to Coca-Cola Park for a four-game set.
