Phils hang on in ninth to sweep Rockies

FROM THE MORNING CALL

PHILADELPHIA — The Rockies had the tying run on third base and the winning run on second, but Brad Lidge got a chopper from Ryan Spilborghs to save the Phillies' 5-4 win over Colorado.

The Phillies have now won five in a row, their longest winning streak since April 9-14.

Northampton graduate Brian Schneider started behind the plate and had a two-run, stand-up triple for the Phillies. He also walked and scored in the sixth..

Lidge allowed a two-run homer in the ninth and then loaded the bases before getting out of the jam. He needed 34 pitches to get out of the inning, the most he's thrown since Sept. 11, 2007.
