North Warren Legion advances to Section 1 baseball championship game

North Warren will play in the New Jersey Legion Section 1 baseball championship game Tuesday after a pair of victories over the weekend.

North Warren faces Wharton at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park. The winner advances to the state finals which will begin Saturday at Mercer County Park in West Windsor.

Treavor Dubiel hit a grand slam and drove in six runs and Kevin Kelly added four RBIs as North Warren topped Waldwick, 15-5, on Sunday.

Billy Turner contributed three hits and Kelly, Eric Bohem and Kevin Bertholf added two hits apiece. Greg Terhune earned the victory with eight strikeouts.

In the tournament opener on Saturday, Turner and Dubiel each had three hits and three RBIs to pace North Warren to a 16-12 victory over Pequannock. Turner, Dubiel and Nick Macaine all homered.

Two Hunterdon County teams -- Flemington and Clinton -- advanced in the district tournaments.

Flemington faces Lyndhurst for District 2 Tuesday at Tenner Field in Union.

Clinton is playing Lawrence in a District 3 loser's bracket game tonight.
