Mount Airy Casino Resort opened its table games this morning to a large crowd never seen before at the casino on a Tuesday morning.

"It's Tuesday morning in the Poconos, and I've never seen so many people," casino President and CEO George Toth said before former owner Louis DeNaples, father of current owner Lisa DeNaples, rolled a pair of commemorative craps dice to open the casino's 74 tables at 10 o'clock.

Mount Airy had an even larger crowd at its table games test day Sunday when gamblers crowded the tables all day.

"From when we opened at 2 to when we closed them at 10, you couldn't get a seat," Toth said.

Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Commissioner Ray Angeli said Mount Airy also did stellar slots business Sunday and he expects the addition of table games will continue to add significant business to Pennsylvania casinos.

"I think (crowds) will increase," he said today. "This is the middle of the week."

By 11 o'clock this morning, the craps tables had people lined up on all sides and 10 out of 11 Texas Hold 'Em poker tables were in full swing. Three-card poker also was pretty popular, but there were still some open seats at many blackjack tables.

Included in the crowd were many Northampton and Warren county residents. Some, such as West Easton resident Michael Smith, prefer Mount Airy to Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, but many others planned to switch to Sands once it opens its table games Friday.

"We're going to be going to the Sands a lot more," said Washington resident Adam Zimmer, who used to travel to Borgata in Atlantic City for poker with friend Joshua Lienbach, who was with him at Mount Airy this morning. "We like to play when we have extra cash."
