Lehigh Valley IronPigs shut out for the second straight night

Aaron Bates drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, as the Pawtucket Red Sox blanked the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 8-0, tonight.

The game was played at Pawtucket because of an International League rule that all league teams must play a home game on the night of their Fourth of July weekend fireworks displays.

Lehigh Valley was limited to six hits by three Pawtucket pitchers. Andy Tracy and Domonic Brown managed doubles, the other four hits were singles.

Pawtucket took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Ty Taubenheim walked two batters and Bates followed with his seventh homer of the season.

The Red Sox added a run in the sixth and tacked on four more runs in the seventh, including two on a two-out double by Josh Reddick.

Lehigh Valley returns home to Coca-Cola Park for a 7:05 p.m. game Sunday night, followed by fireworks.
