FROM KEITH GROLLER
As someone who has rooted for USC football since he was a kid, it has been a few rough months to say the least -- first with the coaching change and then the NCAA sanctions.
While I think the NCAA is merely a money-making machine full of hypocrisy and phoniness and I won't take major NCAA football seriously until there is a true champion crowned via playoffs, their sanctions against USC both in basketball and football was a clearcut signal that the school needed to wise up and clean house.
It has started to do so in a big way by replacing Mike Garrett as AD and replacing him with Pat Haden.
I've liked Haden ever since he was was a quarterback at USC and with the LA Rams, and that's a long, long time ago.
And I thought he did an outstanding job with color commentary on various networks, most recently doing Notre Dame games on NBC.
He will bring much needed class and integrity to the USC program.
Here's the comment from NBC on Haden's new job:
ON PAT HADEN BEING NAMED USC ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
“For a dozen years, Pat Haden has been a very talented and key member of our Notre Dame television team. He will be sorely missed. It is absolutely unsurprising and typical that Pat would want to be there for his beloved alma mater in a time of need. His integrity, his talent and his engaging manner are just what the Trojans need.”
