HERSHEY, Pa. | It was almost a dream ending for Anthony Gonzalez.
Ultimately, it just wasn't meant to be.
Mark Myers threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Ohio State-bound Christian Bryant with 1:04 remaining Saturday to lift the Ohio All-Stars to a dramatic 18-15 victory over the Pennsylvania All-Stars in the annual Big 33 Football Classic at Hersheypark Stadium.
Gonzalez, the Liberty High School standout, looked like he might be the hero when his 65-yard touchdown pass to future University of Pittsburgh teammate Andrew Carswell gave Pennsylvania a short-lived 15-10 lead with 1:30 left.
"I thought that was the game-winning throw," said Gonzalez, who was 6-for-19 for 146 yards. "He ran a post and took it to the house. Losing is always tough. I love to win, but you can't win them all. I had a blast this week. It was a great experience."
It might have been a bad omen when Gonzalez's pass attempt on the first play from scrimmage was tipped at the line and intercepted by Ohio State-bound defensive end J.T. Moore.
A blocked field goal on the ensuing series gave Pennsylvania excellent field position at the Ohio 42. Gonzalez completed a 20-yard pass to tight end Tyler Beck of Wlson West Lawn. But the drive eventually stalled and Adam Keller's 37-yard field goal attempt was wide left.
Pennsylvania grabbed a 2-0 lead on the next series when a high snap on an Ohio punt attempt sailed out of the end zone for a safety.
Tyler Smith of Wilson entered on the next series and was snake-bitten from the get-go. His first pass was a bomb to Penn State-bound Alex Kenney that was caught out of bounds. His next pass hit Beck right on the numbers but was dropped.
Pennsylvania's next possession saw Smith unleash a bomb that was mishandled and dropped by a sliding Salath Williams of Bishop McDevitt.
