Dave Post approved as Phillipsburg High School head wrestling coach

Dave Post was unanimously approved as Phillipsburg High School's head wrestling coach by the Phillipsburg School Board. The 2003 Phillipsburg High School graduate said he's come full circle.

"Growing up I came to the high school matches with my dad (Chuck Post), envisioning I'd wrestle for Phillipsburg some day, which I did. Then to go to college and come back, it's been nice," Post said.

Post, a Cornell University graduate, had been an assistant to Jason Magditch, who chose not to return as coach when budget cuts eliminated his position as director of physical education and discipline at the end of the 2009-10 school year. Post is a math teacher at the high school and head boys cross country coach since 2008.

Post and assistant coach Scott Silvis are in Williamsport, Pa., supervising a group of 10 Phillipsburg wrestlers at Lycoming College's summer camp. Post said Magditch came to them a few weeks ago and asked them to continue running the program's summer workout schedule. It was then, Post said, he learned Magditch might not be returning for the 2010-11 season.

"Being an assistant the past two years I am very familiar with the kids, and I knew some of the kids from doing summer camps when I came home from college," Post said.

Post was 111-22 in his career at Phillipsburg, wrestling at 145 as a freshman and sophomore and at 160 as a junior and senior. He was a four-time District 1 champion and two-time region champion. He placed fifth at the state tournament as a junior and third as a senior. Post lettered during the 2003-04 season for Cornell's nationally ranked program.

The school board also approved Silvis and former Easton Area High School star Brad Gentzle as Post's assistants.
