ALTOONA -- On the biggest scholastic stage, righthander Nate Emlet turned in a dominating pitching performance Friday at the PIAA Baseball Championships.
The first-time District 3 champions, sound in Cherry and Steel, handed Emlet the ball against District 6 runner-up Martinsburg Central. The Shippensburg University-bound ace did not dissapoint.
Emlet fashioned a complete-game five-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Adams County Eagles bounced the Scarlet Dragons 5-3 at Blair County Ballpark.
Jason Cline ripped two of seven hits for Bermudian Springs (21-7), which turned a 0-3 start to the regular season into its first PIAA title.
Emlet fired 112 pitches, the majority over the first three innings as Central (17-11) built a pair of one-run leads. However, the Eagles caught a break in the top of the fourth when the Dragons kicked three balls on defense, allowing Mike Moore and Chris Davis to score the go-ahead runs.
Cline added the final post in the sixth, scoring on Central’s fourth miscue.
