The Phillies have activated catcher Brian Schneider after he completed his rehab assignment with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, club officials announced today.
Schneider, 33, a Northampton High School graduate, was originally placed on the disabled list on May 9 with a left Achilles strain. He made three rehab appearances, going 0-for-8 with a walk for triple-A Lehigh Valley. In seven games (six starts) with the Phillies this season, Schneider is batting .167 (3-18) with two walks and three runs scored.
To make room on the 25-man roster, the Phillies designated catcher Paul Hoover for assignment. Hoover had spent most of this season playing for the IronPigs.
