Northern Lehigh (15-6) used the pitching of Julie Wagaman and error-free defense to beat Southern Lehigh 3-1 on Wednesday in the first game of the Colonial League softball semifinals at Pates Park.
Wagaman, a senior, struck out six and walked one.
She allowed a first-inning run, but shut out the Spartans the rest of the way.
The key inning was the sixth when Southern Lehigh had the bases loaded and one out, but Wagaman struck out cleanup hitter Katie Tankred and got Jen Hallowell on a grounder to short to end the threat.
Northern Lehigh (14-7) had just five hits off Tankred, two of them by Kristi Seiler.
Seiler doubled and scored in the second inning and knocked in the go-ahead run with a fielder's choice grounder to short in the third. She then added a single in the sixth.
Southern Lehigh's Eleni Dimou had two hits, including a triple that led to the Spartans run in the first inning. Cori Ozanne knocked in Dimou with a sacrifice fly.
Northern Lehigh, looking for its first league title since 1995, will play either Pen Argyl or Palisades at 5 p.m. Thursday back at Pates Park. Solehi will be involved in the District 11 3A tournament next week.
