Kendrick helps Phillies blank Cardinals

PHILADELPHIA
Kyle Kendrick pitched seven scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season as the Phillies shut out the Cardinals 4-0 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Kendrick (1-1) fanned three, walked two and gave up six hits..

Placido Polanco got the Phils on the board with his two-run home run in the fourth. Shane Victorino added a solo shot to make it 3-0 in the sixth. Greg Dobbs came on to pinch hit in the seventh and hit a run-scoring double.

But there was some bad news for the Phils. Shortstop Juan Castro, filling in for the injured Jimmy Rollins, left the game after singling in the seventh and has a strained left hamstring.
