The Dieruff High football team will be attending the NFL Draft on Saturday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
The team has been invited by Athlife, a new organization dedicated to mentoring student-athletes. The Allentown School District has recently struck up a relationship with Athlife.
Approximately 55 people -- 47 kids and eight coaches -- will be on the trip and have centerstage seats at Radio City Music Hall. They will attend in team jerseys and have their pictures taken on the big RCMH stage at some point.
The draft has a different format this year and Saturday's session will begin with the fourth round. In past years, Saturday was the big day, but now the first three rounds unfold on Thursday and Friday.
But just to witness the entire scene and be around the TV cameras and personalities and the whole NFL atmosphere is a rare treat that I am sure the kids will truly treasure.
Dieruff is leaving at 6:30 in the morning. The draft begins at 9 a.m. and is expected to end around 5.
"It's a great opportunity and experience for our kids," Geiger said. "We were thrilled to get this invitation. It's nice to get some recognition."
