3A WRESTLING AT LIBERTY

Parkland placed nine wrestlers into the semifinals to take the team lead after the early rounds today of the District 11 Class 3A Wrestling Championships at Liberty.


The Trojans, who finished second in the PIAA team duals at Hershey, take 114.5 team points into the semifinals, which begin at 6 tonight at Liberty. Nazareth, the Lehigh Valley Conference champ, also sent nine wrestlers into the semis and is second with 106.5 points.


Blue Mountain (95), Easton (90.5) and Northampton (77) round out the top five.


Easton, the District 11 duals champ, has six wrestlers in the semifinals, including unbeaten Mark Hartenstine at 140 pounds. Blue Mountain sent seven wrestlers to the semis, including defending state champ Josh Kindig, who is in the 140-pound bracket opposite Hartenstine.


Northampton, Liberty and Stroudsburg advanced four wrestlers each, while Whitehall has three.


The championship finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Liberty. The top six wrestlers in each weight class move on to next week's Northeast Regional Tournament at Freedom.
