http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2014/05/sitcomsonline-digest-new-episodes-of.html

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we've got yet another update on the on-again/off-again story of a new season of Community, news of new DVDs of current series, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • Six seasons and a movie? It seems like a real possibility that Hulu could at least make that sixth season part true if they do in fact pick up new episodes of Community, which seems to be a real possibility. (Deadline)
  • NBC's head of comedy development, Tal Rabinowitz, is leaving the network, which also means that comedy and drama development will be merged into one division. The only question that hasn't quite been answered is how this will affect the future of sitcoms at NBC, as the network hasn't had much success in this area lately. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • The cast of The Wonder Years reunited this week in preparation for the upcoming DVD release of the series, and it seems that everybody is talking about that reunion more than they are about the DVDs. (NY Daily News)

The latest high school softball player of the week and updated Top 10

FROM KEITH GROLLER

HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EMMA VARRATO, PARKLAND
Parkland coach Barry Search is not the type of guy who gives you a lot of definitive statements, but he was quite clear in saying “Emma Varrato is the most improved player on our team this year. Absolutely.”
Varrato, a junior shortstop, had a key, two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning on Wednesday night to help Parkland quickly recover from a ragged top of the first when two errors led to two Northampton runs.Emma Varrato 002
Varrato would score the go-ahead run and Parkland was on its way to 5-3 District 11 4A semifinal victory.
“We needed something there and she came through for us,” Search said. “She has come through for us all season. She’s had big hits and when her confidence gets up there, she’s a tremendous player.”
Varrato started at second base as a freshman and moved to short as a sophomore.
“She’s already a three-year starter and makes all the plays at shortstop and has gotten better as a hitter,” Search said. “She doesn’t do a lot of joking around. She’s very serious about the game. I like that.”
Varrato, who later added a single against Northampton, said “this is by far the best year I’ve had and I just want to keep getting better.”
Varrato entered Thursday’s district title game with .343 average, six extra-base hits, 16 runs, 13 RBIs and six steals.

Parkland recaps a very successful school year with sports awards ceremony

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It was another incredible year for Parkland in high school sports with 12 District 11 title teams and 12 LVC champs. It's no wonder why it is not the most popular school outside its hallways and boundaries. It's clearly the premier athletic program in the area at the moment, a juggernaut, and the cause of dread for the new teams coming into the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, the new 18-team that will be unveiled next week.
Parkland held its annual awards ceremony earlier this week and here's a recap of the award winners from another highly successful school year:

Tidbits and bets from Vegas: Daly is a big loser, but those who go with Pacers could win big

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Haven't received a report from RJ Bell of Pregame.com in a while.
He always has interesting stuff on what's going on at the sports books in Las Vegas.
I am personally hoping sports betting will be legalized in New Jersey and believe that will create a tremendous amount of revenue for Atlantic City, which is stuggling, and create a lot of interest for Lehigh Valley area sports fans who can't so easily get to Vegas and/or don't want to take risks with the popular, but illegal pools and football "tickets."
RJ has an update on that NJ situation and much more, including tonight's Game 6 in the Pacers-Heat series:
NBA Series

Heat: $1000 wins $100 (implying 88% chance to advance)
Pacers: $100 wins $700 (implying 12% chance to advance)

Game 6 spread:

Heat -7.5 hosting Pacers

Golfer John Daly has lost $55 Million Gambling!

In an interview with Yahoo, Daily said he was "shocked" when he added up the losses. He described the loss size as "stupidity" but also noted that this total was over many years, and that the annual loss of around $3 million wasn't so bad. He "had a lot of fun" and "loves the action." Daly talked of gambling for two days straight, only getting up to go to the bathroom - playing up to 7 hands of blackjack at a time, betting up to $15,000 per hand. He also loved playing $5,000-a-spin slot machines. http://yhoo.it/1gEtgYz
California Chrome owner bet horse to win Derby at 200/1

This longshot bet was made back in January at William Hill sportsbooks in Nevada. According to reports quoted by Darren Rovell, the amount was $1000 risked to win $200,000!

More Mayweather vs. Pacquiao talk:

Promoter Bob Arum was talking Floyd vs. Pacman again recently. Pregame.com boxing experts would make Mayweather -200 (risk $200 to win $100) over Pacquiao +180 ($100 wins $180). Bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro said he'd make Mayweather a bigger favorite (-350). This difference implies the average bettor (who the bookmaker must consider) would be more optimistic about Mayweather than the professionals (although both make Floyd the clear favorite).

Vegas Brawl between Mayweather and rapper T.I.

Over Memorial Day weekend at a Fatburger on the Vegas strip. Rumor is the conflict was over T.I.'s wife, and that the rapper swung first. Story from TMZ: http://bit.ly/1wtiQ2M

Tiger Woods Out US Open - Vegas Effect

Las Vegas expected Tiger NOT to participate, so odds on other golfers were not improved with Tiger’s withdrawal.
Tiger's absence from a major is estimated to decrease the overall action by about 20%!

Record Basketball Action

Last month, Nevada won the most money EVER for the month of April on basketball action.

Action on Presidential Elections?

A Nevada State Senator made a strong push early this week to legalize betting on Federal elections. By some estimates, action on the Presidential election alone could reach 50% of the action on the Super Bowl! Optimism for this initiative waned later in the week when it failed to garner support of a key legislative panel.
Sports Betting in New Jersey

New Jersey wants sports betting, the federal government is fighting against it. The United States Supreme Court will announce in June whether they are taking the case. State Senator Ray Lesniak said recently the court result won't stop the state from moving forward. Lesniak was quoted in an article by John Brennan:

“Right now, book your hotel room [in Atlantic City] for the Super Bowl next year and the NCAA Final Four, because you won’t be able to get one,” Lesniak declared. “We are going to have sports betting in New Jersey next year. Go to the bank on it, because if the [Supreme Court takes the case], it will be overturned. “And if it isn’t, it’s the position of the Justice Department in their briefs that they are not stopping states – you can repeal sports betting laws, you just can’t regulate it. I have legislation being drafted, and that will be introduced, to allow casinos and racetracks to have sports betting on our premises. We just won’t be able to regulate it. We are not going to be deterred.”

TV NEWS MAY 30

http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2014/05/nick-at-nite-acquires-how-i-met-your.html

Nick at Nite will be adding three new sitcoms to its line-up in the coming months. First up will be a brand new acquisition. Nick at Nite has acquired the non-exclusive rights to How I Met Your Mother. The sitcom will join the Nick at Nite primetime line-up in September. Currently the series airs on Lifetime since Fall 2010, WGN America since Fall 2010 and FX/FXX since Fall 2011. Possibly one or more of those networks will lose the rights come September when Nick at Nite starts airing it. Stay tuned. The second sitcom to launch on Nick at Nite will be The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as the series will return to Nick at Nite after five years. The Will Smith comedy will be exclusive to Viacom networks come this Fall, as we mentioned, with Nick at Nite starting it in October. It will also be joining sister networks BET/Central this fall, as we know. Currently the series airs on TBS and ABC Family, but they will both lose rights this fall. And finally, the third sitcom to join Nick at Nite will be Everybody Loves Raymond. Sister network TV Land airs the show right now but Nick at Nite will start Raymond in early 2015. It is still too early to tell if it will air on both networks or if it is moving to Nick at Nite. It is possibly a contract renewal since Raymond has been airing on TV Land since March 2010, so we could probably expect it to air on Nick at Nite sometime in the first quarter of 2015. Keep it with us for continued updates on HIMYMFresh Prince and Raymond
