TV NEWS MARCH 31

http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2013/03/week-27-tv-ratings-and-analysis-how.html

2012-13 Week 27 TV Ratings (first four nights, Mon-Thu):

Households: N/A
Total Viewers: N/A.
Adults 18-49: N/A

Week 27 (March 25-31) Analysis: NBC is back on the map thanks to one show, The Voice. It came back strong and gave them a Monday win and made NBC competitive on Tuesday. We don't have the final first four night network averages, but we can project CBS has the lead in HH/total viewers, while NBC is probably on top in adults 18-49. CBS is probably very a close second place in 18-49, followed very closely by Fox and then ABC. In HH/viewers, ABC is probably second behind CBS, while NBC is a likely third. And Fox is probably a competitive fourth, even with Idol. When the week is done, CBS should come back and take the week in 18-49 again, thanks to NCAA. CBS will also take total viewers for sure. More on that later. As for the previous week, week 26, CBS edged Fox for first in adults 18-49 with 2.1 rating, compared to a 1.9 for Fox. ABC was right behind Fox with a 1.8. NBC was way back there once again in fourth with just a 1.2 18-49 rating. Among total viewers, it was of course CBS on top easily over second place ABC and third place Fox. And NBC was way back behind in fourth, like every week since January. Saving grace The Voice has arrived in week 27, though.

Monday saw NBC come back to life after hibernating in the winter. But first, ABC started with a two-hour Dancing with the Stars from 8-10pm and did 14.47 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, which is down eight tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season's debut. That was expected with the NBC competing reality premiering, the ABC series was up from week two in the fall, though. Then Castle was all-new at 10 and did a big 10.57 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down just a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Episode #100 tomorrow night! For NBC, they had the two-hour The Voiceseason premiere from 8-10pm that did 13.64 million and a 4.8 18-49 rating, which is up from its fall launch on Sept. 10, 2012 and up 2.1 points in 18-49 from previous week's Loser finale. A strong start. At 10pm, the return of Revolution did 7.03 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, good for first thanks to the lead-in. It's solid but not a big hit. CBS was all-new with its comedies, as a new How I Met Your Mother did 6.99 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, which was down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. A new Rules of Engagement at 8:30pm did 6.3 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, which is down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. I think that's low and could be better. At 9pm, a new 2 Broke Girls followed with 8.76 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 actually from previous week's series low. I thought it would have been down again. Next, a new Mike & Molly did 8.99 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, also up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's series low. A new Hawaii Five-0 at 10pm did 8.61 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. All three 10pm dramas did well for 10pm. Fox aired a news Bones at 8 and it did 6.96 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 9pm, week ten of new drama The Following at 9pm did 6.66 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which is down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week for a series low. A little concerning, but solid even with all of this competition. The CW aired week eleven of The Carrie Diaries at 8 and did 0.83 million and a 0.4 18-49 rating, which is again on par in 18-49 with previous week. Should do better.  At 9, 90210 was preempted for a Hart of Dixie repeat that did 0.42 million and a 0.1 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's repeat. A 0.1 is terrible, repeat or not.

Shaffer knows who he'd like to succeed him at Southern Lehigh

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Bob Shaffer is completely done as a basketball coach after Saturday's Via All-Star Classic at Northampton Community College.
He coached for 25 years at Southern Lehigh and what we will always remember about him, and his staff, especially his longtime friend Kurt Zellner, is that it was a classy operation and the Spartans were always competitive.
We understand there is considerable interest in the opening and up to 20 interviews have been, or will be conducted, and some of the names mentioned are not surprising because we've heard them before. Many current and former coaches are in the mix.
The bottom line is that it's a coveted position because Southern Lehigh has always featured quality, smart, coachable kids. There have been problems down there from time to time with parents; but the kids have generally been great. It's a similar community to the other two schools just up the road -- Emmaus and Parkland.
Shaffer is not on the interview committee and he says that's good because he definitely has a favorite candidate and that's Brad Huebner, who has been on the Solehi staff for the last six years and is immersed in the sport of basketball.
"Brad would be a great carryover from me and the committee knows that he's who I would like to see get it," Shaffer said. "I think any time you have a chance to have continuity, it's a plus. That makes things go easier. Basketball is Brad's life. He loves the game. He's dedicated. He's a single guy who is married to the game.  He would be very involved; and that's what you need these days, someone who is willing to be involved all year.
"I know the Emmaus kids were out at Hershey for the state finals, but Brad was there the entire weekend, too, watching the games. I think he'd be a great choice."
Huebner has been the Spartans' JV coach for the last six years and posted a solid 89-42 record.
He knows the Southern Lehigh kids, the parents and the expectations.
Huebner is also a talented freelance writer for The Morning Call and has great understanding of how to work with the media.
It is a very talented field of candidates, however. Southern Lehigh has a tough decision ahead, but it's hard to see them going wrong.

FROM MY AIDE DIANA BACK:

Help me cross the Muscle Walk finish line and FINISH STRONG!  Join me at the Muscle Walk and we?ll have a great time for a great cause. Better yet, make a donation today, and help me reach my fundraising goal to help support the families who depend on MDA. Together, we grow stronger.
Make a Muscle. Make a Difference.®
To All My Dear Friends
Since you have known me, you have known that Muscular Dystrophy is part of my life.  I found out why mom was so tired, why mom's hands didn't have strength, why she had trouble breathing and swallowing and why sometimes she just seemed a little distant. I found out right after my daddy's death in 1985 that mom had Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.
Huh? Isn't that something that only little children get? What the heck ? It isn't? Huh? What? I have a cousin that has it too?
Fast forward  ...mom and my cousin pass away from complications due to MD.  Also, I learn that two of my big sisters(and in just 2012 a third sister) and more cousins have been diagnosed. OK...ENOUGH!
So in 2009, our family, The Farmer's Daughters, decided we needed to do something.  MDA had helped our family when things were tough.  It was time to give back. We have had bingo, basket socials and bus trips.  We were able to donate with pride several thousand dollars over the years.
But this year, we need to go above and beyond! On February 28, 2013, my big sister, Kathy, went on to be an angel.
If you are able, a donation would be appreciated.  But if you are not able, a prayer will be just fine.
The 2013 Muscle Walk Rally in the Valley is April 7 at Bethlehem Steel Stacks.  You can donate by going to The MDA Muscle Walk website.

Thank you for your support

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Pat Donnelly fulfilled a lifelong dream in what might have been his last organized basketball game this afternoon.
The Liberty High School senior had 11 points including his first career dunk as the Lehigh Valley Conference East boys defeated the Mountain Valley Conference 114-102 in the 38th annual Via All-Star Classic at Northampton Community College.
Earlier, the Lehigh Valley East girls received a 20-point effort from Morgan Calabrese ofNazareth to crush the Mountain Valley Conference 97-55.

Lehigh Valley West all stars take a pair of games from Colonial League all stars in Via All-Star Basketball Classic

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/03/lehigh_valley_west_all_stars_t.html#incart_river_default

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

For a moment this afternoon, it looked like a typical Bangor Area High School girls basketball game.
Bangor guard Brianna Bisci fed Bangor teammate Morgan McCollian in the post, and McCollian went up for an easy basket. It was a familiar sight, except that the duo wasn't playing for the Slaters anymore.
McCollian scored 19 points as her Colonial League all-star team fell 63-61 to the Lehigh Valley West all stars in the first of four Via all-star games today at Northampton Community College.
In the following game, the Lehigh Valley West boys shot lights out in the first half en route to a 105-92 victory over the Colonial League all stars.

TV NEWS MARCH 30

http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2013/03/digital-digest-possibilities-for-new.html

Happy Easter weekend, and welcome to Digital Digest! This week, we've got all of your regular features, and we get to see a reunion (of sorts) for the Clampetts in a review of The Return of the Beverly Hillbillies. Let's get going!

DIGITAL NEWS

In the early 1970s, Dick Van Dyke returned to CBS in a new sitcom, The New Dick Van Dyke Show. The series starred Van Dyke as Dick Preston, a local TV talk show host in Arizona (and the series was actually filmed there as well). It ended up lasting three seasons, and has been occasionally shown in syndication since then. Now, there seems to be some hope (but nothing definite) on the DVD front for the series. A fan asked about the series on the Warner Archive Facebook page. The response from the studio was a bit positive:
"There are master-quality and clearance issues that need to be resolved, but the outlook is positive and a release likely at some point."
Of course, this doesn't mean that it will definitely show up, but for anybody who is curious, responses similar to this were given not too long ago regarding Alice and Eight is Enough, both of which were released (and not very much later after that).

There has been one nice new addition to the lineup on the website Hulu. The service recently added ten episodes of the rare sitcom My Living Doll. While it is the same ten episodes already released on DVD, this gives a new audience a chance to watch this surprisingly excellent series.

Original series have slowly been becoming a part of online streaming video websites lately, and Crackle has been finding success with this as well. This week, Crackle announced a second season of their original thriller series, Chosen. The first season stars Ventimiglia as a husband, father and lawyer who awakens one morning to discover a mysterious box on his doorstep containing a loaded gun and a photo of a stranger he is instructed to kill within the next three days. Production of the second season will begin this summer.

TV NEWS MARCH 29

http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2013/03/fx-to-launch-fxx-new-spin-off-network.html

On Monday, September 2, FX Networks will launch FXX, a new network aimed at young adult viewers. With the addition of FXX, FX Networks will become a suite of three networks consisting of FX, FXX and FXM (formerly know as Fox Movie Channel). FXX will be available in 74 million homes in year one, making it one of the most widely distributed entertainment networks ever for an ad-supported cable network in its inaugural year. FXX initially will be built on a foundation of original comedy series, movies and acquired series, and expand to include original drama series, all primarily designed to attract young adults 18-34. Before we get into FXX, we'll talk about what this means for FX and FXM. FX, the flagship of FX Networks, will continue to offer award-winning original comedy and drama series, movies and acquired series targeted to Adults 18-49. FX will increase the number of drama series and begin offering limited series and miniseries. FXM will continue to be home to prestige movies, and related short-form original programming - as its universe grows, it will begin to televise its own limited series and miniseries.

FXX will be anchored by the hit original series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League, two of the finest comedies on television and two of the highest-rated among Adults 18-24. These series, along with the series Legit, will move from FX to FXX with the launch of the network this fall. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's ninth season will air on FXX this fall, and the network has also placed an order for a tenth season that will air in the fall of 2014. The League's already announced fifth season will now air on FXX this fall, and the network is announcing a sixth season pickup that will air on FXX in the fall of 2014. The new critically-acclaimed comedy Legit's first season will end on FX Thursday, April 11 at 10:30PM ET/PT. The show has officially been picked up for a second season, and will be moving to FXX, returning in early 2014. In addition, late night comedy seriesTotally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, will go from from weekly to a five-night a week late night strip beginning this Fall with the launch of FXX. Totally Biased will debut its new format this fall with the launch of FXX with 130 new original episodes, airing Monday-Thursday at 11:00 PM ET/PT, with Best of the Week compilation episodes Sunday nights at 11:00 PM ET/PT. Until then, new episodes of Totally Biased in its currently weekly iteration will resume on FX on Thursday, May 9 at 11:00pm ET/PT. One pick-up that was announced by FX Networks today will remain on FX. The critically-acclaimed drama series Justified, starring Timothy Olyphant, will continue to run on FX. Season five begins production this fall and will air on FX in January 2014. Season four is currently airing, with the season finale slated to air next Tuesday, April 2, at 10:00 PM ET/PT.
