We're back with another all-new TV season but we're off to a slow start, minus NBC (thanks to The Voice). And The CW launches its new shows this coming week, so that's why they are down big year-to-year through the first four nights. The 2012-13 season has begun and most of the shows debuted this past week, with still a few shows debuting or having their season premieres in the coming weeks. Through the first four nights, CBS has the lead in all categories but it is very close and they are down big from last season. ABC is in second in HH/viewers and tied with Fox for second in 18-49. NBC is actually in third in HH/viewers, but still fourth in 18-49, but that will change after tonight's NFL game. I expect CBS to take the week in HH/viewers for sure. ABC will likely remain second in HH/viewers, with NBC third and Fox in fourth. Among adults 18-49, we can see some big changes after tonight. Right now only a half a point separates #1 from #4, so if NBC has a big NFL game they could move up to second place or even first place. It will be interesting, especially if ABC's new Sunday line-up does big tonight, too. CBS, ABC and Fox are all down a good amount from last season's premiere week, with only NBC showing gains through the first four nights...because of The Voice (which has helped new drama Revolution). Monday was the first night of the 2012-13 season and it was NBC on top in 18-49 and ABC in total viewers. Starting with ABC, the two-hour season premiere of Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars won the total viewer race with 14.11 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, down from last fall's premiere by five million and 1.5 18-49 rating points. Competing against The Voice has hurt it. The season premiere of Castle followed with a first place 10.45 million but a second place 2.1 18-49 rating, down 1.1 points in 18-49 from last season's premiere. For NBC, a two-hour The Voice, which is in week 3, did 12.18 million and a night best 4.4 18-49 rating. At 10pm, week two of Revolution did well for NBC with 9.21 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, down seven tenths from its premiere but still solid. Next up was CBS with its comedies and the season premiere of Hawaii Five-0. How I Met Your Mother started it off with 8.84 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, down 1.1 points in 18-49 from last year's premiere in the same time period. The series premiere of Partners followed with just 6.56 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, down a dramatic 2.8 points in 18-49 from last season's How I Met Your Mother in the same time period. Not a good start! Then it was the season premiere of 2 Broke Girls at its new time of 9pm doing 10.14 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, which of course was no where near the Men premiere from last season but it was down.3.4 18-49 rating points from last season's series premiere at 9:30pm. That was inflated though. Even so, Broke was down from its average from last season. The season premiere of Mike & Molly followed with 9.45 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, down 4 18-49 rating points from last season's 2 Broke Girls premiere in the time period, obviously. Mike & Molly was down 1.8 18-49 rating points from last season's premiere in week 2. The season premiere of Hawaii Five-0 was next doing 8.06 million and a third place 1.8 18-49 rating, off 1.6 18-49 rating points from the season premiere last season. Not good! Fox was next with week two of Bones doing 7.61 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating at 8pm, followed by the second episode of The Mob Doctor doing only 3.85 million and 1.3 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from a very weak premiere. It will likely be pulled soon unless it starts going up. The CW was airing its summer programming still. Look for season premieres of 90120 and Gossip Girl starting Oct. 8.

IndyCar series expected to return to Pocono in 2013

Pocono Raceway Vice President Bob Pleban sent an email Friday to media outlets about a news conference Monday that will have a "major announcement concerning the Pocono 2013 schedule." Mario Andretti, 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner and 1986 winner of a CART 500-miler at Pocono, Ed Carpenter, winner of the most recent Izod IndyCar Series race and IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard will attend the announcement at 10:15 a.m. Monday along with Pocono CEO Brandon Igdalsky.

Allentown parades in celebration of past and future

Waving blue flags commemorating the city's 250th anniversary, spectators crowded the sidewalks on Hamilton Street Saturday morning to watch the history of Allentown march past. Each of the parade's six divisions was devoted to a 50-year period of the city's past. The sixth division was dedicated to Allentown's future, featuring school marching bands and the mascot of the Phantoms minor league hockey team that will make its home at the arena under construction in center city. Diane Parsons, a lifelong resident who hadn't been to a parade in "a long time," said proudly that she came "because I'm an Allentonian." Jane Cope, also a lifelong resident, said she hoped the parade would encourage people to see the changes taking place in Allentown, such as efforts to improve center city.

The fall TV season is now in full swing, but we didn't get summer reruns and now we're continuing with even more news and reviews for you, just as we've done all summer. This week, we've got reviews of CSI: Miami - The Tenth and Final Season and CSI: NY - The Eighth Season. Let's get going! DIGITAL NEWS It looks as if we'll finally see all of Lucille Ball's major television series completed on DVD by the end of this year, as MPI will be releasing Here's Lucy - Season Six on December 18. The four-disc set will come at a $29.98 MSRP, and although we haven't seen a list of special features yet, we have a feeling that it will be as impressive as the previous five releases. In the meantime, don't forget that CBS is wrapping up The Lucy Show on DVD with The Lucy Show - The Official Sixth and Final Season on October 9! So if you are a fan of Lucy, these releases leave only the less-than-memorable Life With Lucy as her only sitcom to NOT be released on on DVD. If we ever hear any news about this, we'll let you know, of course. A while back, we reported that Happy Endings - The Complete Second Season would be coming to DVD on October 2. Well, that has been pushed back to October 23 (we somehow missed that), but an even bigger story that we missed is that actually, you can get the second season on DVD already! Over a month ago, on August 14, Sony released a special Happy Endings - Seasons 1 and 2 set, which contains both of the first two seasons bundled together in one package! Of course, if you already own the first season, you can wait a few more weeks and pick up just the second season... but if not, you can own the first two together now. Shout! Factory is pushing another series closer to completion (anybody noticed that completion is becoming a common theme around here lately?), but not all the way, as they release Simon & Simon - Season Seven on DVD on October 16. This release leaves only the final season unreleased on DVD. The set contains 16 episodes from the next-to-last season of the series, and costs $29.99 (like previous seasons, it is a Shout! Select release and can only be purchased online). The information we've seen indicates that this will be a six-disc set, but at only 16 episodes, we're not sure that the disc count is correct.

A step back for Dieruff

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER I could have been at several places tonight, but I chose to go to the Dieruff-Lehighton game because I thought there was a good chance the Huskies would end their 33-game losing streak and The Morning Call should be there to document what could be a turning point for a program we have paid great attention to over the years. Remember that big, week-long, award-winning series we ran three years ago? That told the Dieruff story in depth and I thought there was a chance for a new chapter tonight. Well, I miscalculated. Boy, did I ever. So did a lot of people who were optimistic and upbeat and feeling this could be the night. "Glad you're here because this is going to be a historic night," Fred Schuler, the ever-upbeat head of the Dieruff alumni association said as I approached the southwest gate. Instead of history, it was a step back for the program. I'd like to sugarcoat this, but I can't. For those who care about Dieruff athletics, it was a little disheartening. I saw a lot of promise when I saw Dieruff open its season four weeks ago at Pocono Mountain East. I thought the Huskies competed that night. I didn't see that tonight. Tonight, they started slow and never really recovered. They began the game with a complete missed assignment that allowed Lehighton to throw a wide-open, 52-yard halfback option pass and the mistakes continued from there. The kids seemed out of place, out of sync most of the night. Take nothing away from Lehighton, which has Jacen Nalesnik, who may be as good as any kid I will see play football this year. The Indians also have a lot of good young kids and they will be back as a respectable football program sooner rather than later. But Lehighton shouldn't be 42 points better than Dieruff. I like Dieruff coach Kyle Beller and admire his relentless enthusiasm. I like the positive vibe he projected after the game. He's determined to move forward, and really, that's all you can do. Make no mistake, however, he's got his hands full and the first order of business is to not lose these kids. I didn't like the demeanor of the Dieruff players as they walked off the field in various bunches. I didn't like what I saw or what I heard. All of the enthusiasm this group had when they began the season, and I saw it first-hand at an alumni function the weekend before the season began, seems to have vanished. Nothing can build enthusiasm like some success, and this Dieruff team sorely needed some tonight. But it didn't happen. And now I am sure everyone will rev up the attacks and question this move to the MVC, especially on a night that Allen also lost 41-0. The problems with both programs run much deeper than a simple change of leagues will fix. Beller and Allen coach George Clay both knew that when they took over. While neither the Canaries nor the Huskies have won, or frankly come close, do you think for a minute it would have been better had they stayed in the LVC and competed against the Parklands, Whitehalls, Eastons and Nazareths every Friday? It took until five minutes were left in the third quarter for the "Mercy Rule" to go in effect tonight for Dieruff. Had either Allen or Dieruff played Liberty, the one remaining winless team in the LVC, chances are the "Mercy Rule" would have been implemented with five minutes left in the second quarter, if not sooner. Yes, that's how far back these two Allentown programs remain from the rest of the Lehigh Valley's big-school programs. At least for one night, Dieruff thought they had a chance -- a chance that never would have existed had they stayed in the LVC. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities to come.

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Lehigh is 4-0 and ranked No. 11 and No. 15 in the country among FCS teams, and yet, there's a lot of uneasiness about this team and this home game on Saturday against Fordham. Lehigh's depth has been in question since Day 1 and an injury to linebacker Sam Loughery that will keep him out against the Rams is a major blow. Gerard Gordon will take his place. Coming out of that amazing comeback against Liberty and looking ahead to 12:30 Saturday, here are three good things and three not-so-good things with Lehigh football: THE GOOD: 1. Lehigh is finding ways to win the tight ones. They have been outplayed for large chunks of games, especially the Princeton and Liberty contests, and yet they are resilient enough to find ways to win. This team is confident and never wavers, even when things never seem to go smoothly for a full quarter or half. 2. In a loud, hostile environment last Saturday, Lehigh did not turn the ball over and had just four penalties compared to a dozen by the home team. The special teams have been solid as well. Lehigh leads the Patriot League in net-punting and is second in offensive kickoff returns and second in kickoff coverage. Jake Peery is just 1-of-3 on field goal attempts, but at least he hasn't missed on 14 PAT kicks. 3. The defense has been tough when it needed to be. They have been on the field much longer than the offense. Lehigh is sixth in the league at 27:20 per game in time of possession. Though tired, and sometimes battered, the defense has made all the plays when they needed it. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: 1. Offensive inconsistency. Lehigh has led by at least 14-0 in every game, but the offense seems to take the foot off the pedal and the next thing you know, the game tightens. 2. Ryan Spadola leads the league with 21 catches for 355 yards, and yet has no touchdowns and seems to spend long periods of time without the ball. Defenses are obviously focused on stopping the All-American, but somehow, some way, Spadola needs the ball for this offense to take flight. 3. Lehigh needs to make homefield advantage a real advantage. In two games so far, the Mountain Hawks never let big leads fade and once the game tightens the environment at Goodman Stadium grows tense and almost works against the home team. Lehigh has two games at home coming up and will have both Bucknell and Colgate coming to Bethlehem later in the season. Teams should fear coming here, but so far, no visitor has been intimidated. MLB Postseason Line-Up for TBS

Ernie Johnson, Ron Darling, and John Smoltz will work on he network’s coverage of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). For TBS’ Wild Card and Division Series Brian Anderson will work along side Darling and Joe Simpson while Johnson gets paired with Smoltz and Cal Ripken. The other Division Series announcing teams will feature Dick Stockton and Bob Brenly and Don Orsillo and Buck Martinez. Craig Sager will work as reporter for the ALCS. Week 5 High School Football Picks: Where's Amy Adams when I need her?

Too time-consuming, and at least half the time I fall asleep. Plus, I have HBO and Showtime and figure I can wait to see them in my own living room albeit six or nine months later. But because we had a theater gift card, the other night my wife and I saw "Trouble With The Curve," the baseball-oriented movie with Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake and John Goodman. The characters were the kind we've seen a thousand times before and the baseball scenes were not real realistic, except for the obnoxious, money-driven phenom Eastwood, Adams and Timberlake went to North Carolina to scout. Yet, this was a movie that my wife and I both enjoyed. I don't know why she enjoyed it (maybe Timberlake), but I can tell you I enjoyed it because of Amy Adams. She comes across as a dream girl for the sports fan -- able to fire back baseball trivia question answers with the quickness of an Aroldis Chapman fastball. The trivia questions, the foundation of the romance between Adams and Timberlake, that I remember were easy: Who is the only player to win the MVP award in both leagues? Who hit the three-run, pinch-hit home run that tied Game 6 of the 1975 World Series and set the stage for Carlton Fisk's famous foul-pole shot later? Who were the three Dodgers pitchers that gave up Reggie Jackson's three home runs in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series? Those answers are, of course, Frank Robinson; Bernie Carbo and Burt Hooton, Elias Sosa and Charlie Hough. Adams, gaining her wisdom and toughness from her father (Eastwood), was able to judge the potential of a player just by sound and when she heard the pop of the glove created by the warmup tosses of pitching prospect Rigoberto Sanchez, yet another cliche in a movie filled with them, she immediately put on the catching gear and decided to test his fastball and curve herself. Very impressive lady. Certainly, a baseball fan's dream come true. Ahh, but she only exists in the minds of Hollywood movie-makers. I could use a real-life Adams to help with the high school football picks. I was 18-3 last week and still a pedestrian 71-19 (78.8 percent) for the season. Here we go with our Week 5 selections: LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE Nazareth 35, Freedom 28 -- Was torn on this one because it's obvious that the Patriots are playing better football after losing to East Stroudsburg South and Whitehall in the first three weeks. But if Whitehall can put 42 on the Pates, I figure the Blue Eagles can score at least 35. Andy "The Weave" Weaver is going with his boys, 38-28. Northampton 28, CCHS 21 -- Another one that had me somewhat torn. I have covered CCHS the past two weeks and I don't think this is a bad football team. Just need more consistency and someone offensively to take the pressure off Colin McDermott. I will go with the Konkrete Kids, but expect this one to be very close and decided late. Parkland 14, Whitehall 13 -- Yet another terrific LVC matchup and perhaps the game of the night. It has become, perhaps, the LVC's best rivalry. Starting 0-2, Parkland has to play with a sense of urgency every week. I just give the Trojans the slightest of edges based on their defense. I don't care who they played, the fact that Parkland posted back-to-back LVC shutouts is impressive. Easton 21, Emmaus 7 -- This is always a special homecoming for Green Hornets coach Joe Bottiglieri. This one might be closer than you'd expect, but Shane Simpson can't be contained all night. Liberty 42, Becahi 7 -- This used to be one of the biggest games of the year. If Liberty had only beaten Becahi a few times in the 1980s and early '90s, we would have never had to go through the breakup of the East Penn Conference. Now the tables are turned and no one at Liberty (or Freedom, for that matter) is screaming about alleged recruiting. MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE Stroudsburg 42, Allen 14 -- Another long night for the Canaries, who are at least getting some big plays from quarterback Alvin Lara. Dieruff 26, Lehighton 21 -- Evenly matched game. Huskies have a few more offensive weapons, the Indians have Jacen Nalesnik and a better defense. East Stroudsburg South 28, Pocono Mountain East 21 -- Cardinals have more offensive weapons. Cavs have more size and depth. Pocono Mountain East must clean up the penalties. If it does, it can be as good as anyone in this league. East Stroudsburg North 41, Pocono Mountain West 14 -- Lack of line play hurting the Panthers, who still have an outstanding quarterback and receivers, but haven't been able to showcase them since that Week 1 win over Bethlehem Catholic. Wyomissing 42, Pleasant Valley 20 -- I have great respect for Jim Terwilliger and the Bears, but Wyomissing is one of the best teams in the state regardless of classification. COLONIAL LEAGUE Notre Dame 20, Northwestern 14 -- Crusaders haven't won since Week 1 win over Palmerton, but have been playing everybody tough. Bangor 28, Wilson 14 -- Four simple words yet again: In Scags I trust. Pen Argyl 23, Southern Lehigh 14 -- This may have been chosen as the Colonial League's Game of the Year back in August. Spartans' 0-3 start took some luster off it, but with a strong kick here they could get back into the District 11 3A playoff hunt. Still, until proven otherwise, you go with the proven team and that's Pen Argyl. Palisades 34, Palmerton 7 -- Sometimes you wonder how these two are in the same league. A backyard rivalry it is not. Hope the Bombers at least packed a snack for what has to be an hour and 20-minute trip, minimum. Northern Lehigh 28, Salisbury 6 -- This will be a better boys basketball game in the winter. Catasauqua 34, Saucon Valley 13 -- Roughies offense has been as good as anyone's in local football through the season's first month. OTHERS Panther Valley 41, Schuylkill Haven 34 -- Panthers play very entertaining games. Three of their first four have featured a minimum of 72 points scored. Jim Thorpe 33, Shenandoah Valley 27 -- The Olympians scored 48 points against Panther Valley and still lost last week. Tamaqua 21, Annville-Cleona 13-- Lebanon Valley has the Flyin' Dutchmen and nearby Annville-Cleona has the Little Dutchmen. You know as the folksy saying goes: "If you're not Dutch, you're not much." I'll still take the Blue Raiders. Marian Catholic 34, North Schuylkill 22 -- A quality battle of teams that are a combined 7-1. Looks to me like the Colts are back. Pennridge 27, CB West 14 -- We know that Mike Pettine, Jr., is the defensive coordinator for the Jets. Wonder how his legendary father is doing? Our District 11 teams could never seem to beat him, but our teams were not alone. North Penn 42, Quakertown 7 -- Despite a 2-2 start, North Penn was good enough to beat Archbishop Wood 24-10 on Sept 8. This Wood team may not be as good as last year's all-world Wood team, but NP's win showed me that they're still pretty darn good. Pius X 33, Bucktail 20 -- Love the attitude of Phil Stambaugh who is not looking back at either the players he lost, or his team's 0-4 start. Enjoy the games everybody.

Fox Sports Networks at Big West Conference Announce Deal

The deal makes Prime Ticket, FOX Sports West, and FOX Sports San Diego the exclusive regional TV partners for Big West Conference sports commencing this season. A minimum of 20 marquee events will be showcased, including regular season men’s basketball games, four men’s basketball tournament quarterfinal games, and the women’s basketball tournament championship game, as well as the soccer and track and field championships. Next year that number will increase to 32 sporting events with the inclusion of San Diego State into the conference. The comedy will star Kirstie Alley in the lead role of Madison "Maddie" Banks, a Broadway star who finds her life turned upside down when Owen, the son she gave up for adoption 26 years ago, turns up looking to connect after his adopted mother has died. However, Maddie doesn't exactly see nerdy and schlubby Owen fitting in with her luxurious lifestyle. When her attempt to change Owen backfires, Maddie finds that perhaps they both could use a little change in their lives. The Giant Baby presentation comes in addition to two pilots the network has ordered – Brothers-in-Law, which revolves around the family dynamic between a husband and the eccentric fiancé of his wife's twin sister, and I'm Not Dead Yet, about a man who finds out that he has a rare heart condition that could cause him to die at any moment, causing him to finally start speaking his mind. Both pilots recently wrapped production and are awaiting word if they will be picked up to series. Stay tuned if they do! Giant Baby is written and executive produced by Marco Pennette and is also executive produced by Kirstie Alley and Jason Weinberg. Larry W. Jones and Keith Cox serve as executive producers for TV Land. We will let you know if TV Land orders a pilot. There is still a VERY long way to go as first it needs to be ordered to pilot and then ordered to series. So stay with us. But for now, Kirstie Alley can currently be seen on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars on ABC Mondays and Tuesdays starting at 8/7c. Jim Rome Jumps to CBS Sports Radio

http://sportsmediajournal.com/ Since Jim Rome moved his television program Rome to the CBS Sports Network and CBS announced it would be launching a national radio network, there was talk of Rome bringing his radio show with him to CBS. That talk became reality today as CBS announced that The Jim Rome Show will have a new home on CBS Sports Radio. The Jim Rome Show will air on the CBS Sports Radio Network from 12:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. ET beginning January 2nd. Rome will also contribute daily commentary as part of the network’s CBS Sports Minute. Rome will also provide commentary for CBS Sports and CBS Sports.com. Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I spend our entire news segment looking at the issue of the replacement officials in the NFL and the reaction across all segments of the media to their work. We point to those outside the sports media talking about this story and how the “train wreck” that has been the replacement officials may actually benefit the NFL as some non-football fans may begin watching the games to see how the referees will mess up this week’s games. Ken and I also bring up the news from late last week that the NFL Network has reached an agreement with Time Warner cable to include the network on its cable line-up. Her day-to-day responsibilities will include overseeing operations of a full-service, multicounty title agency serving an eight-county area. In addition, Lehman will work for and in cooperation with Rosemarie Lobe-Waller, CFO of the Wilkins organization. Lehman began with the company as a settlement officer, account manager in February 2010. Prior to that, she was employed with Investors Abstract for 22 years. Lehman started her title career with Investors Abstract in 1987. Lehman was also a principal in New Millennium Settlement Agency between 2000 and 2009. Cara Guilfoyle has joined Coordinated Health and began seeing patients at Coordinated Health's Cetronia Road campus.

Nurture Nature Center's project will help the National Weather Service to comprehend how people living in the Delaware River Basin understand and use their flood forecast and warning tools in understanding their flood risk and how they could be improved to better motivate flood preparedness and warning response by the public. The project, "Flood Risk and Uncertainty: Assessing the National Weather Service's Forecast and Warning Tools," supports NOAA's new Weather-Ready Nation initiative, designed to help the nation become better equipped to prepare for and respond to weather emergencies. For this project, the center will partner with the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center and the Weather Forecast Offices in Mount Holly, N.J., Philadelphia and Binghamton, N.Y. The Nurture Nature Center will also collaborate on the project with Burrell Montz, a social science researcher from East Carolina University with expertise in flooding and natural hazards. The Nurture Nature Center will organize a series of four focus groups among individuals living in the city of Easton, and the more rural community of Lambertville, N.J. Nazareth Center for the Artsreceives Chamber grant The Nazareth Center for the Arts was presented with a check for $2,000 from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber's Main Street Lehigh Valley Foundation on Sept. 10 in recognition of the completion of its interior and exterior illumination project. The reimbursement covers more than half of the expense of the installation of the lighting project. The check was presented to the committee volunteers by Chamber Foundation Grant Committee Chairman John Hayes, president of AFC First Financial Corp., and Marlyn Kissner, executive vice president regional chambers. The Nazareth Center for the Arts is the gateway to the historic downtown Nazareth district one block away. Housed in the old borough firehouse built in 1902, it sits on the edge of Section Eight housing on both sides of the block. Illuminating the interior and exterior space of the building allows for a safer, more visible venue for the community as well as helping to beautify the gateway to the town's downtown business district. The Chamber Foundation's MSLV Initiative aims to improve every main street in the Lehigh Valley through targeted investments in facade improvements, streetscape designs, sidewalk beautification and other enhancements to the physical appearance of its downtowns and urban centers. Nazareth is one of 18 communities that received a portion of the Foundation's $2 million in community revitalization projects in municipalities across the Lehigh Valley.
