Thome trade to Orioles impacts the IronPigs
http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/
FROM KEITH GROLLER
he early Saturday night Phillies trade of Jim Thome to the Baltimore Orioles for prospects Kyle Simon and Gabriel Lino had an immediate impact on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
To accomodate the open spot on the Phillies roster, outfielder Jason Pridie was taken out of the lineup after playing left field in the top of the first inning and sent to Florida to join the parent club.
As for the two prospects acquired by the Phillies, don't expect either at Coca-Cola Park any time soon.
Simon, a 6-foot-5 righthanded pitcher from the University of Arizona, has a 2-8 record and 3.96 ERA in 14 starts with the Frederick Keys in the Class A Carolina League. The 21-year-old, who was drafted in the fourth round in 2011, is averaging 6.1 strikeouts and 2.6 walks per nine innings.
Lino, a catcher who just turned 19 in May, is hitting .218 in 56 games for the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Class A South Atlantic League.

Tatamy firefighter challenge fails to draw participants
http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/nazareth/index.ssf/2012/06/tatamy_fire_company_contest_fa.html
FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
It was the heat.
Or maybe it was the festival in Wind Gap, or the community event in Forks Township.
Whatever happened, of 15 fire departments the Tatamy Fire Company invited to its first skill challenge, only Pen Argyl’s company showed up.
But Tatamy Fire Chief Shawn McDonald rolled with the punches.
“Originally we were supposed to be hosting, but due to the lack of participation, my guys and Pen Argyl merged and put on demonstrations,” McDonald said.
He also said the fire department will bring back the annual parade that the skills challenge replaced this year after more than 80 years.
TV NEWS ON JUNE 30
http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/06/digital-digest-jack-benny-from-shout.html
Welcome to Digital Digest! It's a light news week this week, but we're here once again for all of your news, a look at Tuesday's releases, and this week, we have a review of GCB - The Complete First Season. Let's get going!
DIGITAL NEWS
In the on-going story of 2011-2012 seasons of continuing sitcoms on DVD, we have one more entry this week from Universal. On September 11, Universal will release Up All Night - Season One on DVD. It isn't available to pre-order just yet, but with only a little over two months until release, it should be available some time soon.
The Jack Benny Program has had several DVD releases over the past decade, but all of those releases have been from low-budget studios and have included (exclusively) public domain material. But on September 11, it appears that Shout! Factory may be bringing us something a little bit better with The Jack Benny Program - The Lost Episodes! We haven't heard anything about this anywhere else, but according to another listing for the item on Movies Unlimited, the set will include 24 episodes of the classic series, not seen since their original airing, with guest stars including Milton Berle, George Burns, Gary Cooper, Frank Sinatra, President Harry S. Truman, John Wayne, and others. The information also suggests that there will be a few special features as well. There is no word on the source for these episodes, but an article appeared in The New York Post in early 2010 indicating that CBS had discovered "roughly 25 episodes" of the classic series in their vault, but was being "stingy" (remember, The New York Post is a paper which likes to sensationalize news) and refusing to let them ever be seen again... but the real news in the article is that the real problem is likely costs for music clearance, something which CBS is not necessarily always eager to pay for on their DVD releases. So, is it possible that these episodes being released by Shout! Factory are indeed these episodes? Perhaps they are some other lost episodes? Or are they just more of the standard public domain releases we've seen in the past? We don't know just yet, although given Shout! Factory's history, it is unlikely that it would be more like the releases we've seen in the past. We'll let you know when we know more. Our appreciation goes to the poster of this message on the website Home Theater Forum for bringing the matter to the attention of others! By the way, if you're hungry for some of the standard public domain Jack Benny fare already out there, check out Mill Creek's 39 episode collection of The Best of Jack Benny... it may be public domain, but it is a much nicer public domain release of the series than the other collections out there.
CBS has been planning a MOD release of Becker - The Fourth Season for a few months now, but we hadn't heard much about it... until now! According to the listing on amazon.com, it will begin shipping this coming Tuesday. But that isn't all for CBS! Another listing popped up on amazon.com recently for Dave's World - The Third Season. No date is given for this yet, but we'll let you know more when we know more.
Speaking of CBS, some people out there may be aware that the studio keeps a syndication bible available online. It isn't really something that is really designed for the general public, but rather as information for TV stations which air series from their library. On the surface, this appears to have little (if anything) to do with DVDs... but it has a lot more to do with them than it sounds. This is because it keeps updated information on when the studio remasters series and individual episodes in high-definition, and over the years, many "DVD-philes" have come to discover that things only get remastered in preparation for DVD (although the database is sometimes not totally up to date, there is evidence to support this; the best example is for the series Dynasty, where CBS has transferred seasons two through five to HD, but skipped the first season, which was released by Fox). So, why are we bringing it up this week? In recent weeks, seasons three through five of The Streets of San Francisco have been added as being remastered or in-progress (and we know both the third and fourth seasons of that series are forth coming), and recently, HD versions of the remaining (unreleased) seasons of Perry Mason and The Lucy Show have been added to the website. So, although we can't draw any definitive conclusions from this, it seems to suggest that releases of these series may be on track for completion. We'll let you know more once we know more!
Finally, an unusual bit of news popped up on TVShowsOnDVD.com regarding Fantasy Island. It suggests that Sony will be releasing Fantasy Island - The Complete Second Season as a MOD title on September 4. This is unusual, though, because this set was already released just a few weeks ago by Shout! Factory as a standard pressed title. We have no clue what is going on with this release, and even Shout! Factory is confused by it as well, as indicated on Twitter by producer Brian Ward. So, is this release really coming? Or is this just some sort of error by Sony? We don't know, but hopefully things will become a bit clearer in the upcoming weeks, and we'll let you know what we find out!
UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW
Tuesday (July 3) is a moderately busy day for DVD releases, with CBS leading the pack. As we mentioned a little earlier, they'll begin shipping Becker - The Fourth Season exclusively as an amazon.com CreateSpace MOD title on Tuesday, but that is far from the only release from CBS. Other releases for Tuesday (and these are all standard DVD releases available at all retailers) from CBS include Mannix - The Seventh Season, The Streets of San Francisco - Season Three (Volume 1 and Volume 2), and Dynasty - The Sixth Season (Volume 1 and Volume 2). You can read our review of Mannix from last week's Digital Digest, and reviews of The Streets and San Francisco and Dynasty will be coming up in the next few weeks on Digital Digest. Shout! Factory has more of Rocko's Modern Life with Rocko's Modern Life - Season Three. You can read our review of that set here. If you're a fan of The Cosby Show and just don't want the season sets, First Look Entertainment has a value-priced collection of episodes with The Best of The Cosby Show - Volume 2. Finally, Universal releases a special which looks back at the females, going as far back as the days of Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, and Laraine Newman, of NBC's long lived Saturday night program with The Women of SNL.

FROM PENNLIVE
With a deadline hours away, the Pennsylvania Legislature is holding a rare weekend session in an effort to approve bills that are integral to the state budget.
The issue of publicly funded, privately run charter schools is the source of at least two disagreements as lawmakers struggle to finish before the current budget expires at midnight.
The state Senate approved the $27.7 billion state spending plan 32-17 Friday. The House passed the bill Thursday. Corbett is expected to sign it today once he receives the enabling bills that finance the spending plan.

The CW Network will strategically roll-out its 2012-13 season this October with the premieres of three new series, returning favorites on new nights and one final season of Upper East Side drama. The CW's newly revamped Wednesday kicks off on October 3 with The Winchester boys and the season premiere of Supernatural at 9:00pm. The following week on Wednesday, October 10, The CW presents one of the most anticipated shows of the season, Arrow at 8:00pm ET, starring Stephen Amell as the popular DC Comics character. On Monday, October 8, the most famous zip code in America, 90210 at 8:00pm, returns with a brand new season, followed by the final season of OMFG drama on Gossip Girl at 9:00pm.
The Thursday line-up will also begin on one night, The CW's top-rated series, The Vampire Diaries, returns for another season of bloody-good drama on October 11 at 8:00pm, followed by the romantic new series Beauty and the Beast at 9:00pm, starring Kristin Kreuk as a homicide detective and Jay Ryan as a doctor with a very dark side. And finally, Maggie Q returns to action as Nikita, Friday, October 19 at 9:00pm following America's Next Top Model: College Edition, which premieres on August 24, as previously announced.
Week two of ABC Family's new original sitcom grew from its premiere! Bucking the typical trend new series experience, ABC Family's Baby Daddy increased over its series debut by 4% in Total Viewers (1.72 million vs. 1.65 million), by 1% in Adults 18-49 (946,000 viewers vs. 935,000 viewers), by 8% in Viewers 12-34 (910,000 viewers vs. 843,000 viewers), and edged slightly higher in Females 12-34 (681,000 viewers vs. 679,000 viewers). Impressively, Baby Daddy ranked as Wednesday's #1 cable telecast in primetime in Women 18-34 (679,000 viewers). We're really not that surprised because it is a perfect fit for the cable network and we are lacking a comedy today in the same vein as Boy Meets World, Step by Step and Saved by the Bell. In addition, Baby Daddy ranked as cable's #1 telecast in the half-hour in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Women 18-49, and was the #1 scripted cable telecast in Adults 18-49! The hit new sitcom soared over its established Melissa & Joey lead-in by double-digit percentages across all target demos, including by 21% in Total Viewers (1.72 million vs. 1.42 million), by 15% in Adults 18-34 (598,000 viewers vs. 520,000 viewers), by 13% in Adults 18-49 (946,000 viewers vs. 840,000 viewers) and by 29% in Viewers 12-34 (910,000 viewers vs. 707,000 viewers). The series retained 100% of its premiere's 0.7 adults 18-49 rating.
Speaking of Melissa & Joey, at 8pm, it was cable's #1 telecast in Adults 18-34 (520,000 viewers), Women 18-34 (414,000 viewers), Adults 18-49 (840,000 viewers and a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating) and Women 18-49 (605,000 viewers). Season 2 to date, Melissa & Joey exceeds its season 1 average by impressive margins, including by 28% in Women 18-34 (396,000 viewers vs. 310,000 viewers), by 19% in Women 18-49 (587,000 viewers vs. 495,000 viewers) and by 15% in Females 12-34 (523,000 viewers vs. 456,000 viewers).

State House approves $27.66 billion budget
http://www.mcall.com/news/nationworld/pennsylvania/mc-pa-house-budget-vote-20120628,0,4435747.story
FROM THE MORNING CALL
HARRISBURG—
— A $27.66 billion, no-tax increase state budget that provides state colleges, libraries and public schools with the same amount of money they received this year but ends a cash assistance program for the neediest Pennsylvanians is on its way to the state Senate.
With just two days to go before the Saturday deadline to approve a spending plan for the fiscal year that starts Sunday, the House voted 120-81 on Thursday evening to approve the budget, which represents an increase of $370 million over current spending and $500 million more than Gov. Tom Corbett sought when he presented his first spending proposal to lawmakers in February.
A vote by the Senate is expected as soon as Friday.
The House action came after several hours of pointed debate and amid last-minute work by legislative staffers, lawmakers and administration officials to reach agreement on a host of issues that have been pulled into the budget's orbit, including school reform and a $1.65 billion, 25-year tax credit for Royal Dutch Shell PLC.
While lawmakers debated, state Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser and his staff hovered outside the doors to the House chamber, hoping to buttonhole skeptical lawmakers and persuade them to support a tax credit the administration has described as "essential" this budget season.

Nazareth Area to temporarily shutter planetarium
http://www.mcall.com/news/local/mc-nazareth-school-budget-20120628,0,5084294.story
FROM THE MORNING CALL
Area School District once again will mothball its aging planetarium as part of its efforts to balance its budget.
The high school planetarium is 40 years old and is badly in need of repair, according to outgoing Superintendent Victor Lesky.
He estimated it would cost about $50,000 to bring it up to current standards.
Lesky said the district plans to set aside funds for its repair, with an eye on reopening it in the 2014-15 school year.
Until then, the district will offer an online planetarium course and retain the teacher who ran the planetarium.
This isn't the first time the planetarium has sat dormant. It was closed for 10 years because of budget cutbacks and the lack of qualified teachers to run it.

ESPN To Televise Rose Bowl Game Through 2026
http://sportsmediajournal.com/
ESPN and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses have announced a 12-year extension during which the network will continue to televise the Rose Bowl Game through the year 2026.
The extension begins in January of 2015 and the games will be played January 1 at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT (or on January 2 in years when January 1 is a Sunday) and will feature the champions from the Big Ten and Pac-12.
Important to this announcement is that even if the Rose Bowl is one of the games as part of the new college football playoff system, ESPN still retains the rights to the telecast. This, in effect, ensures ESPN will likely not be shut-out of televising a portion of the college football playoffs when it goes into effect in the 2014 season.
As part of the deal ESPN will showcase the Rose Bowl Game on television, ESPN Radio, ESPN Mobile TV and on smartphones, tablets, online and on Xbox LIVE via WatchESPN. Additionally, ESPN has secured rights to distribute the Rose Bowl Game on ESPN 3D and around the world through ESPN International.
“The Rose Bowl Game is one of sport’s most meaningful and celebrated events,” said John Skipper, ESPN President. “Extending our relationship long term with such a prestigious brand will play a significant role in the way fans continue to define ESPN – as the leading destination for college football all year long.”
“The Tournament of Roses is thrilled to extend our agreement with ESPN to broadcast the Rose Bowl Game. Since 1989, the Rose Bowl Game has witnessed tremendous success with our partners at ESPN, which includes year-round, multi-platform promotion,” said Libby Wright, Chair of the Rose Bowl Management Committee. “ESPN is truly the leader in sports and its support of our brand and product over the years has strengthened our position in post-season college football. As we prepare for the 100th Rose Bowl Game in 2014, we look forward to new beginnings with a partner we consider family and continuing to showcase to the world the passion, strength, tradition and honor unique to our game.”
Late Sunday NFL Games Shifted Ten Minutes
http://sportsmediajournal.com/
The NFL announced today that it is shifting the Sunday afternoon late doubleheader game to 4:25p.m. ET to reduce instances in which fans miss the end of a 1:00p.m. ET game telecast because they must receive the opening kickoff of their home team’s late-afternoon game.
The 4:05p.m. start for games not part of the doubleheader schedule will not be changed.
From the NFL:
In researching the kickoff time shift, the NFL analyzed games from the 2009-11 seasons and found that 44 games required part of the audience to be switched to a mandatory doubleheader game kickoff. With a 4:25 PM ET kickoff time, that number that would have been reduced by 66 percent to only 15 games.
Approximately 40 games over the full 2012 season will be impacted by the 10-minute kickoff time shift – withhalf of those moves coming in games played in Mountain or Pacific time zones with 1:25 PM or 2:25 PM local starts.

Garbage truck, car crash in Lower Nazareth Township; two people hurt, police say - UPDATE
http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/nazareth/index.ssf/2012/06/garbage_truck_sedan_crash_in_l.html
FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
A garbage truck slammed into a Chevrolet sedan that ran a stop sign about 9:30 this morning at Georgetown Road and Newburg Road in Lower Nazareth Township, Colonial Regional Police report.
Drivers of both vehicles were injured and taken to an area hospital, said Sgt. Darren Wendling. There were no other passengers in either vehicle, he said.
The sedan, driven by John Dilli, Sr., of Briarwood Lane in Nazareth, was going north on Georgetown Road when witnesses said it ran the stop sign and was struck on the passenger side by the westbound truck, driven by Terrence Montes, of Sunset Terrace in Palmerton, Wendling said.
Both Dilli and Montes were transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill for treatment.
Montes was listed in good condition this evening, according to a hospital nursing supervisor. The supervisor did not have information on Dilli.
No one has been cited so far, Wendling said, but added the investigation is in its early stages and is continuing.

TV NEWS ON JUNE 28
http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/06/tbs-renews-men-at-work-for-season-2.html
TBS has renewed its popular new sitcom Men at Work for a second season. Currently airing Thursdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), the comedy ranks as one of basic cable's Top 5 new series with adults 18-49 for the quarter. TBS has ordered 10 episodes for the second season, which is slated to launch in 2013. Created by Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, TNT's Franklin & Bash), Men at Work centers on four buddies who work together at a magazine. Danny Masterson (That '70s Show) plays the recently dumped Milo, whose friends are determined to help him get back in the dating game. James Lesure (Las Vegas) is Gibbs, a photographer and successful ladies man. Michael Cassidy (The O.C.) plays Tyler, a features writer who brings a dose of style and sophistication to the group. And Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is Neal, a somewhat nerdy ad salesman and the only one in the group with a steady girlfriend (Meredith Hagner - Royal Pains).

NFL changes start time of late Sunday games
http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/
FROM KEITH GROLLER
In an effort to reduce potential overlaps between the early games and the late ones, the NFL announced today that it is moving the start times of some of its late-Sunday afternoon games from 4:15 to 4:25.
This will impact the doubleheader games on CBS and Fox.
Games that are not part of doubleheader coverage will still start at 4:05 p.m.
The change will impact approximately 40 games during the 2012 regular season with half of those involved coming in games played in either the Mountain or Pacific time zones.
The NFL researches everything and it found that in looking back at games from the 2009-11 seasons, 44 early games weren't yet over when they were switched to a mandatory doubleheader game kickoff. The 4:25 start time for the second game would have meant only 15 games would have been been affected.
Only one 2012 Eagles game, the Nov. 11 home game against Dallas, will be impacted by the change in time.
Thursday!

Sports Media Weekly No. 108
http://sportsmediajournal.com/page/2/
t’s news, news, and more news on this week’s edition of Sports Media Weekly. This week’s program has no guest, so Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I thought we would touch upon a good number of news making headlines in the sports media world.
We begin the show talking about the news that college football will have a four team playoff format beginning with the 2014 season. Ken and I speculate which media entity will likely be the high bidder for the rights of the three game playoff series. Both Ken and I like ESPN’s chances.
We then delve into the news from ESPN that Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer will be calling the network’s nightcap of its season-opening Monday Night Football double header.
The talk then shifts to Great Britain as we discuss the busy sports schedule for England with Wimbledon, the British Open, and the Olympics all taking place in the country over the next month and a half. We mention the benefits of NBC’s announcement today that people who want to watch the Olympics online can start the authentication process with their local cable or satellite provider now.
Along the way in the show we discuss the move by CBS to enter the national sports radio market while saluting WFAN for its 25 years on the air.
Ken and I also touch upon the prospects of a new morning show for the NFL Network and the strong viewership on ESPN for Euro 2012.

AT THE IRONPIGS GAME TONIGHT IN SECTION 103!

AT THE IRONPIGS GAME TONIGHT IN SECTION 103!
TV NEWS ON JUNE 27
http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/06/antenna-tv-adds-barney-miller-benson-to.html
We already have some Fall 2012 scheduling news for Antenna TV! They will showcase two more all-time favorite sitcoms to their line-up with the airings this fall of '70s classic Barney Miller and '80s staple Benson. Antenna TV, which airs on 65 affiliates across the U.S. reaching 60% of TV households, adds both programs to the network's Sunday night schedule starting Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Barney Miller, with Hal Linden heading up an ensemble cast, originally aired on ABC from 1975 to 1982 and will air on Antenna TV Sundays at 8-9pm ET/5-6pm PT. Benson, with Robert Guillaume in the lead role, aired from 1979 to 1986 on ABC, as a spin-off from Soap. Antenna TV will air the series as back-to-back hours on Sunday nights, with Soap continuing to air at 11pm-12am ET/8-9pm PT and Benson following at midnight-1am ET/9pm-10pm PT.
The rest of the Antenna TV Fall 2012 schedule will be announced later this summer, as part of our annual Fall cable schedule barrage starting in mid to late July. Will there be any more new additions, time slot changes, or more airings of Barney Miller/Benson? Stay tuned! The Antenna TV schedule will continue to include vintage favorites such as Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, Good Times, Three's Company and All In The Family.
Charlie Sheen fondly recalls his former series Two and a Half Men by selecting his 24 favorite episodes for special 12-hour Men marathon tomorrow (Thursday, June 28) from 9:00AM-9:00PM on FX. The Two and a Half Men marathon will lead into the launch of FX's highly anticipated summer comedy block which kicks off with two back-to-back episodes of Sheen's new sitcom Anger Management at 9:00PM and 9:30PM. Afterwards, the laughs continue with the season two premiere of Wilfred at 10:00PM, the season three premiere of Louie at 10:30PM, and the debut of Brand X with Russell Brand at 11:00PM (All times are ET/PT.)
In Anger Management, Sheen stars as Charlie Goodson, a non-traditional therapist specializing in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patient regulars each week, as well as performing pro bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison. Charlie thrives on the chaos in his life while still battling his own anger issues. His life is complicated by his relationships with his own therapist/best friend (Selma Blair), an ex-wife (Shawnee Smith) whose positive outlook but poor choice in men frustrates Charlie, and their 13-year-old daughter who has OCD (Daniela Bobadilla). Michael Arden, Derek Richardson, Noureen DeWulf, and Barry Corbin also co-star. Bruce Helford serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner. Joe Roth, Mark Burg, Dave Caplan and Vince Totino are Executive Producers. Anger Management is produced by Lionsgate Television and distributed by Debmar-Mercury.
Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer to Handle ESPN MNF Opening Nightcap
http://sportsmediajournal.com/
ESPN announced today that Chrie Berman and Trent Dilfer will be in the booth for the second half of its season-opening NFL double header on September 10th. The pair will work the telecast featuring the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders with a kick-off set for 10:15p.m. ET.
The new ESPN two-man booth featuring Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden will have the opener which will pit the Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens.
Prior to the regular season debut, Berman and Dilfer will also call the Arizona Cardinals-Tennessee Titans MNF preseason game on Aug. 23rd.
“I have worked with Boom for four years now and I’ve never been around someone who loves the NFL more than him,” said Dilfer. “I firmly believe that his passion and mine for the game of football will translate to the audience.”
ESPN has had a number of broadcaster combinations through the years for the second half of these opening NFL double headers. Here are all the combinations since 2006:
Year Game ESPN Commentators
2006 San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders Brad Nessler, Ron Jaworski and Dick Vermeil
2007 Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers Mike Greenberg, Mike Golic and Mike Ditka
2008 Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders Greenberg, Golic and Ditka
2009 San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders Greenberg, Golic and Steve Young
2010 San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs Nessler and Trent Dilfer
2011 Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos Nessler and Dilfer
2012 San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders Chris Berman and Dilfer
There will be a lot of debate over ESPN’s decision as we get closer to opening night. And as much as I would rather see someone other than Berman for this game, it is only one game and most viewers watch for the action on the field, not the announcers in the booth. We who analyze sports media sometimes forget that.

Chase Utley goes 2-for-5 with home run in Lehigh Valley IronPigs' win
http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/ironpigs/index.ssf/2012/06/chase_utley_goes_2-for-5_with.html
FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
It takes a lot to get the attention of a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer.
Chase Utley was able to accomplish just that in the IronPigs’ 10-3 win over Rochester in front of a sold-out capacity crowd of 10,100 on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The rehabbing Philadelphia Phillies second baseman made quite the impression on Lehigh Valley manager Ryne Sandberg, a 2005 inductee.
Utley, a five-time National League All-Star, went 2-for-5 with a solo home run to deep right field off Esmerling Vasquez in the bottom of the fourth inning and two strikeouts.

Hundreds of nurses at Lehigh Valley Health Network could receive up to $1,950 each to settle claims they were routinely required to work overtime without being paid for it, court records show.
In court papers filed in May in federal court in Philadelphia, the health network offered a settlement that it said would cost $4.5 million — $2,564,911 to compensate nurses involved and the bulk of the rest to pay the nurses’ legal fees.

State budget details emerge, state universities spared deep cuts sought by Corbett
http://www.mcall.com/news/nationworld/pennsylvania/mc-pa-budget-update-062612-20120626,0,4946975.story
FROM THE MORNING CALL
HARRISBURG ——
Pennsylvania's four state-related universities and the 14 state-owned universities would likely receive the same amount of money as they did last year; public schools and public libraries would also be level-funded, but a program that provides cash assistance to nearly 70,000 of the state's neediest citizens would come to an end.
That's according to an outline made public Tuesday of a $27.656 billion state budget for 2012-13.
But broad swaths of the document, and not least of which was a controversial proposal to roll seven, existing county-run human services programs into a single block grant program, were still under negotiation on Tuesday. Issues also caught in the budget's orbit, such as school reform, were also still under negotiation.
